Hi,
Find a kit that includes o-rings for all of the connections. R134A molecules are smaller than R12 and therefore can get past old seals. After you have changed all the seals and replaced the compressor oil, use a vacuum pump to pump the closed system down. If if hold vacuum steady for 30 minutes, you are ready to do an initial charge with R134A. Put in about 1/2 can and then check all the connections for leaks. Use a concentrated solution of dish soap and water. No leaks, then charge the system to the manufacturer'r recommendation weight of R-134A. You should get about 40*F air out of the vents. Mike

My buddy just had his 72 GP done at the local Kwik Kar service place in our neighborhood. He has R12, they charged with R12 and replaced his super heat switch, cost him around $350. They use 4 cans I think.
Had mine evacuated and charged with 134 for around $150.00 at the same place. I had mine converted to 134 last year, this winter we put a cam in, had to drain it to remove the condenser, then I had them recharge. |
