Does anyone know exactly the symptons I would be experiencing with frame rust out? I have this problem where my chassis on my 64 lemans is flexing enough to allow my passenger door to rub against my fender no matter how many times I adjust it out after driving around a day or two it goes right back to rubbing. I have also noticed that ever since this problem developed I have been hearing what can best be described as a clunking sound coming from my engine bay. Today the problem got to the point where the "clunk" sound is really loud and it feels like the engine is like loose in the engine bay, but I checked the mounts (both brand new) and it is still secured. I check all mounting points for body that I could see as well as front crossmember for damage or rust out to no avail. I also went ahead and boxed some of the frame channel with flat stock but this did no good either, now that the noise is getting really loud the passenger door wont open at all. Oh yeah the clunk is only heard when the engine/chassis is under load, I never hear it if I free rev the engine in neutral. I have done the best to explain my problem but its a weird one and its hard to explain, if anyone has any suggestions or a good starting point please email me at
[email protected] I will also check this post frequently. I drive this car everyday and it is in EXCELLENT shape other than this.

Just to be absolutely clear:

The clunking you hear is in response to the transition of taking the engine from no load to load? Does it do this with the car still, or does the car have to be moving?

Do you get any clunking noises by simply bouncing the suspension up and down forcefully with the car standing still?

If you set the adjustment of the fender, does it change or pop out of place when you a) bounce the suspension forcefully with the car standing still, or b) rev the engine against the torque converter or clutch with the car standing still???

Just thinking alound here, sounds like a tricky one.....
