Just picked up a 67 LeMans... straight... clean inside and out... some say it has two extra doors but I like it... just got done going thru engine...sandblasting..painting..putting back together... puurs like a kitten... only problem is I cant go backwards unless I park facing uphill
 ... I know... poor me... Ive realised its a pain the the a$$ to try and find a 2 speed powerglide since most are used in alot of drags around here....anyone know some tricks I can try before buying a whole new tranny... already tried a new filter and such.... replies graciously accepted..... ty

A TH350 with the BOP bolt pattern will bolt right in, and give you a nicer range of torque

I have a 67 Lemans and did a search on this site and everyone pointed me to the same info--th350.
It will give you more zip and it bolts right in. Do a search under "Drivetrain" section and you'll get some good tips. I havent got one yet but cant wait. Good luck and let me know how it turns out. I'll use any advice you come across fo my future install.

Just curious. Why not a TH-400? Cost?

VID GUY, from what I remember reading, the TH350 bolts right up without any modification to the drive shaft length or moving the crossmember. When I looked at the comparisons I knew that if I was going to get a 400 engine within 6-12 months I would go with the th400, but I've read about guys who have stayed with the th350 and just added a trainny cooler and been fine. The other option is to prep the th350's guts to handle a bigger engine down the road.
Bottom line was, for the 326 engine, it was cheaper to go with the th350 and still get great performance without too much fooling around. The only thing that you'll need with either setup is the console "plate" for a 3spd and possibly shifter assembly linkage(Shiftworks?).

Hello Airborne, A 350 will bolt right in, but I believe you will have to use a cable kickdown linkage instead of the electric kickdown of the 2 speed original....Regards, Gary

Gary's right. You'll need to go junkyard scrounging to find a kickdown cable and the intake bracket to mount it. Or buy a universal kickdown kit.

for the record, it is not a 2 speed powerglide, that is the Chevy. It is an ST-300 Buick trans and they are cheap and easy to find, and not that expensive to rebuild. Reply if you need help locating one.

I did the 350 swap this spring.I have a '66 GTO
with a warmed over 389.I had the ST-300 rebuilt and I wasn't happy with it.Not too many people know much about the ST's.I decided on the 350 because of ease of the changover.Big difference with the 350 vs the 300,I love it. Eric |
