Finally ordering headers
 I was seriously lloking at the summit headers, as a few people on the site suggested them. HOWEVER, Scott at Summit informed us that they do not make a header for a 67 Firebird  So, he suggested a headman header #35270. Does anyone have any experience with these headers? Good/bad? Any other suggestions....remembering that there is somewhat of a budget. Scott also suggested spraying the pipes a colored heat paint BEFORE installing, as they will keep the headers looking OH, and the paint comes in many colors. Do you guys think thats a good idea as well? Thanks CHRIS

ONE MORE QUESTION......
When should someone opt for a 3" exhaust system rather that a 2.5" system? The local exhaust shop by me says he can go either way for the same price. Header back, 2.5" or 3" pipe, custom bent with flowmaster mufflers, "X" pipe and tailpipes... $350.00 installed.....sounds alittle cheap, but I'm not saying anything.

The 3 inch will flow better but will also be louder. If you don't mind the noise & this guy does good work go for it. By the way i think i told you this but i used to use the Hedman 35270 header & it fits like a glove. At least it did on my car.

I thinks it's a great idea....Get going...You still have the front end work to do, and you want to get it on the road this year.
By the way...Do the front end work first before you put the motor in. Anthony

Thanks Bean! I'm ordering the headers today or Thursday!
Just wanted to get the engine stuff pretty much done. I just got the carb on. Need the flywheel, and starter.....then some little things and it should be good to go. Front end and brakes next! I may order the brake kit next week. Can you see what you come up with on E-Bay for me? Everytime you check it seems to get cheaper and cheaper.

I have a set of the Summits coming and funny you mentioned the hi temp paint. I had considered that myself.
I read the instructions on the aerosol type Dupli-Color paint, 1500 degrees. If you read the small print, that level of heat resistance is only true if you cure the paint at like 300 degrees for so many hours. We have an industrial oven here at work and you probably know what I'm thinking.

Before you apply the new paint....I think all the paint from the headers needs to be removed.
I also think that a few startups to "warm" the headers up, rather than running them to full temp will also help to "cure" the paint at the lower temps, like you read. Chris

Kinda hard to install headers with wet paint on them though...

Funny Greg!!!
What I was suggesting...and this came from Scott at Summit was to remove the existing paint from the new headers, the apply a few light coats...then..............after it dries to the touch, install them. Then a few short starts will heat them enough to cure, but not enough to burn... Any more good jokes?? lol
