I am having problems with my tranny shaking in 3rd gear only. Drive shaft/u joints are ok, torque converter is snug, flex plate was replaced 6 months ago....I have 2 extra transmissions laying around. How do I tell the difference between a 350 and 400. Which is better? Looking for advice/opinions. Thanks in advance, Ron

A friend of mine just said I could have his tranny. I went and looked at it. It came out of his 76 El Camino. By your chart it is the TH200 Metric 11 bolt. It is to go in my 66 pickup truck. Is that a 3 speed? Is it a decent tranny for general purposes ect. Does it have any draw backs or weak points?

I believe it's a 3 speed that was used behind 6 cylinder engines (someone correct me here). It may not be your best bet for towing or for anything with any power.

It is a weak tranny, TH350 or 400 would be a better choice unless you want to spend alot more for overdrive. My TH350 will handle 700HP but thats with the best parts. The TH400 is stronger but,you loose 22% or so of your power to drive it.
