Hey! I am new here, used to build pontiacs 20 yrs ago, just now getting back into it. Anyway, just bought a pretty clean 69 bird, and I sure dont remember the leg room being so bad. I need More! Any ideas on how to move the seats back, or aftermarket seats for more leg room? I am going to drive it pretty much daily. Thanks

How tall are you. I'm 6'4" and I have plenty of leg room. Maybe your seat is stuck or something. You may have to pull it out and check under it to make sure everything is working properly.

I'm 6' 2". Leg room isn't a problem. As far as arm room goes: 20 years did that to most of us. . . Sorry, couldn't resist that.

OK, have a possible solution. I'm 6'1" and have the same car/ problem. I took the sliders off and welded a tab on the top rail that attaches to the seat. Kind of nervous on this as up here in Canada we have to have car's "Safetied" before they are licenced for the raod. Dought they would notice this. However, to minimize any safety issue, I wanted the bolt to be on some of the original steal so I only added 3/4" overall. Redrilled the front hole 3/4 down. O' anything beyond 3/4" also cause rubbing of the steal slider against the seat cover. This seems to be a great improvement. Only did the drivers seat.

TweetyBird;
I'm just over 6'5" and legroom isn't a problem in my '66. I had the same car when I was a kid and remember having some of the greatest experiences of my young life in that car; now I have trouble gettin' in and out That's what 35 years will do to you Like it or not it happens. Bob G. |
