Nothing "wrong" with the Performer intake and carb. Go take a look at the carb base and tell us if you see a metal plate sandwiched in-between two gaskets??? Just a hunch, but that square-bore to spead-bore adapter plate is required or you'll have a big vacuum leak, which will require lots of timing, cause the car to over heat due to a real lean condition, and so on, and so on... Also look at the carb and make sure all the vacuum ports are either plugged or hooked up correctly. Like the big brake booster one on the back and the PCV inlet on the front. With the vac can you have you will want ported - passenger side if memory serves - but get a vac can with 10 degrees or less if possible. You have way too much timing on that thing.

i have the 280AH-10 in my 400 with #13 heads which is 9.5:1. i also put 3.90 gears when i did this. with a stock converter it wouldn't break the tires loose, but will rip ur head off at 3k on. i forget where the timing is though, i think its at 13* initial. I'm having continental build me up a 2800 stall for this, it should burn rubber then.

if you wanna keep this cam u at least need a 2500 stall converter minimum, and 3.73s minimum. your timing should be around 34-38* i think 40 is too high. the timing makes a huge difference, i drove around with too much timing, and it ran ok, then Todd1035 unplugged the vacuum advance and the timing curve was perfect, and it runs great now.
