I was just thinking...all of this smack talk from Ray directed at 'Dude about who was going to be faster this year, and Ray chastising 'Dude for not wanting to come out and run him at Bradenton (instead of waiting until Norwalk as planned). It's a good thing 'Dude didn't come out, else Ray would have had his a$$ handed to him. Little birdie on the windowsill told me Ray felt the problem might have been the valves hitting the pistons? Isn't that something you always check for with clay upon engine assembly?

Tom

suspension?

1st pass on Hp the 60fts. were 1 tenth better than last years Hp passes
1st pass on N2o was launch only with a 1.32 60 at 10.5 lbs in tires
2nd pass on N2o for first 3.56 seconds (still dont know why it shut off) changed A/P in tires and 60fts improved to 1.27
3rd N2o pass softened shocks, and 60fts were 1.29 (will make shocks stiffer on next pass )

with a new brand of tire, different gear ratio, and converter change, Id say the suspension was getting pretty close for a first time on the track with all those changes!

the Block didnt crack, the water pump housing did, either from vibration, or water sitting in a pocket over the winter, it was right on a seam that was ground down for clearance and very thin. (I know because I changed the gaskets 5 times before finding the crack ) And no it was not in an obivous place)

the converter turned out to be way to loose for the car. We would have had the old converter in the car for first round. We only tried this one because the old converter is slipping so much on the big end. I dont know how to read all the data logger stuff yet, but John Langer and Lynn MCcarthy both saw the graphs on Wednsday and said his old converter is slipping 30% on the big end and giving up a ton of HP so we were trying this one and another that we picked up from Butlers on the way to the track. We already had the pit set up to change it back between the next rounds when the car broke be cause we had figuered out the old one was better and the charts showed the new one was too loose only letting the rpms drop 200 rpms on gear changes. In fact from the line I couldnt even hear the gear change! It sounded like it never shifted!

After being there this weekend, it is also obvious that the other racers and Tec officials respect the potential of John's and Ray's cars John had a great weekend, Rays isnt all bad luck some of it is testing and trying new things, as well as a limited buget and no regular crew, instead of teaching the car to someone new every time out. UNLIKE HIS COMPETITION WHO HAS FULL CREWS AT EVERY RACE, RAY HAS BEEN DOING THIS BY HIMSELF WITH OCCASSIONAL HELP FROM RACERS LIKE MIKE DAVIS WHO ARE ALSO TRYING TO RACE THEIR OWN CAR AT THE SAME TIME !!!!
How many of you would even try? But it sure seems like an aweful lot can condemn from the keybroard. So to you all who condemn, have you even tried to race at a PROFESSIONAL race like this? Have you been to one?

BTW, the 60 ft. times are now consisdent with the class leaders such as the winner's car going 8.20 in the final round with a 60 ft. of 1.32.

Ray's cut a 1.25 60' on the bottle last year. I was with him at Norwalk, where 1.3's were the norm'. Where's the improvement? I'd be willing to bet the farm that his front tires still toe inward severely when he launches.

Ray doing what he is doing mostly alone is admirable, however, when the car doesn't run up to snuff, don't start making excuses after you've been doing some hardcore smack talking during the off season.

Brian I havent had 1.25 60s in two years since I took the "W" tire off except for 1 or 2 here at our home track and we think the clocks were off but I had none at Norwalk! Im not sure why you are saying that because you were there and know better, but I will be posting the time slips later to prove it
Have a nice day

Byron, John and others that were at the track thanks for the help. also Lyn Mccarthy for the help on the phone & Butler for the parts

...it's early yet. 60foots seems to be there, so the rest is far easier to dial-up.

From this early data, I'd say Ray's got a firm grip on the tune for low 8's.

Brian, wouldn't have mattered anyway.

They banned the drag radial in that class. And wasn't going to buy a set of $400.00 slicks for ONE event.

My engine size is illegal for that class too.

My forward facing hood scoop is illegal.

My progressive timer is illegal.

And all my parts are finally going to show next week. At least that's what they are telling me.
Then I still have to order special made/cut 210 degree pushrods.

I've never seen such back up of trying to get stuff/parts as in the past year. But then again I can't keep up with our orders either.

Hard class.

DUDE, You have over 525ci? You can seal the hood scoop. Street type or racing slicks; 10.6x30.5 max. Single fogger or 2 stage plate. Progressive timers not allowed? I think if you & Ray werent such butt heads to each other , I'm sure Ray would have done all he could to get you on the track, especially since he broke. Or must likely try to talk you into letting him drive yours.LOL

Yes over 525. But remember that my old combo was a 10.5-1 pump gas engine with 305 cfm street ported no offset E-heads for a different deal I was working with. Making over 1000hp with spray.

Seal the scoop. Warm air. Competitive. That's a hp maker. LOL.
2 cars tried to enter with 295 M/T's and told... No go.
One went home the other bought a set of slicks.

Butt hole. Bwahahahahahahaa. Recheck all the posts. Wasn't me that went overboard.
Ray used to call asking info and gladly offered any advise I could. Talked about various combos and passed around ideas. And went out of my way to help him last year. And Having Danee' showing up on Sunday cause the bone spur in my foot just got to bad to go back Sunday.
Ask him him about loaning him stuff to pull his engine at Disneyworld and parts on credit so he could make Atlanta last year.
More to a story then what ya see, dude.

He musta broke late Saturday. Which woulda helped me how?
The intake rockers for my shaft assembly, Defective new Holley nozzles , pushrods aren't here. My old heads (which I might have thrown on the engine) developed a crack down in the head stud bosses last year and sent them to Indy to be repaired. Not back yet.

Why would I want Ray to drive my car. I got a Comp licence.

Besides. I'm a better driver. Bwahahahahahahaha.

BTY, we tore down Ray's engine on my 2 hr lunch break. Ray's tak'en it real good, better then me. bmpmdf has stayed to help & been a 3 man crew by himself. Already have all the parts to reassemble. Machine work should be done in a day or two Less then 3 weeks till Columbus.

Is Ray gonna make Atlanta on the last weekend of April or does that conflict with another schedule?

Do you want me to get into the nonsense that's been posted about settings on Ray's car? In case anyone is wondering, YES, I am a bit t'ed off by know it all postings when people were not not around to even know what was going on or tried and why. BTW, You can put a foam plug in that forward facing scoop. The low qualifing e.t. guy in the class did. (actuly, the foam is just an air filter so that excuse on a forward facing scoop is too lame). Drag radials are legal. So is any tire that fits the go/no go gage for width at depth. The one told to change didn't fit the gage because of a wider rim than tire, but his rims spead his tires out too far at the depth measurement. oH, IT IS A LBS per engine cubic inch deal. Just for the record, Ray and I would have loved to seen more Pontiacs at the race, no matter who the person/owner was. The more that show up at these events, the better chance of getting better parts made for all of us in the Pontiac hobby. After seeing the respect by other racers, the techs, and the companies present for all the racers and their wanting to know what racers could benefit from, I'd say we need as many Pontiacs out there as possible and we clearly do not need the p'ing contest on the board. You can ask 10,000 machinist how to correctly machine your engine block and you will get about 9,999 different answers plus the one that simply doesn't want to say anything other than " so what do you want me to do with it"? ( Translated means; I don't want to touch your engine!)

What's that supposed to mean?

This was in the same paragraph, but must be about someone else? Just want to clear the air.

Wouldn't have mattered anyway. Sh*t's not done. LOL.
No rockers, nozzles, pushrods, yada, yada, yada. But T & D promised me shipping yesterday. Hood is supposed to go out Thursday. Nozzles are here.

There is a cu.in. limit in that class.
13: WEIGHT BREAKS/ENGINE COMBINATIONS

Entries using stock-type suspension may deduct 50 pounds from base weights. See section 3.4
Forced induction entries without intercooler may deduct 150 lbs.
If actual cubic inch is more than base cubic inch listing in section 13, there will be a weight penalty of 8.5 pounds per cubic inch assessed to base weights.
Maximum cubic inches for all combinations is 525 CI.

I enjoyed racing all over the place back then. I ran that series back in 2000. N/SS.
Back when it was the Hot Rod Power Festival.
Was leading the points (#1) going into August when Family issues presented themselves and had to "Take a break".

Other then VMP & Norwalk for Pontiac Events. Now just gonna stay closer to home (to much work and can't afford to miss the time) as there is a Stock suspension class in my back yard paying the same or more within 2 hrs time. 3 times a month. Also a regional 1/8th mile DR class in the Southeast paying decent money. Just paid $2500 to win this past weekend.
But they are also bad to the bone. Those ORSCA dudes are in the 5.20's & 30's.
And the stock suspenion dudes down here are in the 5.0's to 5.20's

Wish anyone running a Heads up series with a Pontiac Luck........and deep pockets. Didn't Butlers even try it for a 'very few races' way back? Later, gotta hop & back to work.

Nice edit job you did after blasting Ken for not helping Ray in Florida this year, even though Ray was the only car there with Ken's business stickers on it. I guess Ray's personal attacks in the last few months are excusable, I mean after all, he has Ken's stickers on his car, so it must be ok, right?
