I have a 68 Firebird with a 71 400. It's a 4 speed. I'm in need of a new carb. Should I purchase a carb with mechanical or vaccum secondaries?

If its a Q-Jet, why not let Cliff Ruggles work his magic. I run one of his carbs...he can make a Q-Jet sing.

Most of the experts here will tell you the pontiac quadrajet is the best for all around use. It is hard to beat the factory engineering. If you don't have one to rebuild a number of the people on this board can help you find the right one and even set it up for you. To answer your question that would then give you mechanical secondaries with air valves.

I always run a Holley with mechanical secondaries. I'm not real worried about gas mileage but all out performance!
