Has anyone on here bought from "Gofastparts" on ebay? They are selling the Eagle cranks, rods from eagle, cat, or scat; as well as a rotating assembly with Ross Pistons included.

They seem to be less on price (buy it now price) than other distrubutors of these same parts.. Hmmm... Volume discounts? Or are they gonna soak me with shipping costs or some other "gotcha"??

I called them and the said free shipping to the lower 48 states. they did not sound willing to work on the shipping to Hawaii, so I bought locally from a machine shop here. The kit the advertise has 6.7 rods, not 6.8 and they could not get the .030 over bore on the 3.25 stroke kit for the 455 block

Im not sure if I heard it from here or not, but I did hear that most cranks recieved from e-bay where not straight and after being taken to a shop, the needed to be cleaned up.... But that what I heard... I have no actual experience with the e-bay Eagle crank.

We are now selling the Eagle cranks & Kits at Summit. Rotating kits have a very nice price & you just need to have them balanced.

If Summit is selling them why can't they balance them? Why do they need to be balanced?

Any engine builder worth his salt will check a cranks critical dimensions. I could never assume the quality of product unless you could be privy to the company's QC on the product. My personal experience with AN Eagle crank was it was not straight, journals not round and radiuses polished out. Atleast not good enough for a race motor. The crank had to be trued, cut 10/10, micro polished and heat-treated. To date, no problems and pushing dragster to 8.25/166, clearanced at 2 and 1 1/2 on 5-30 oil. I have been told, but have no supporting data, that the straightness issue is due to transport by sea in container ships. With cranks laying on their sides and the vibration/harmonics in the ship's hull cause a stress relief in the crank. Sounds like a stretch to me but sonic stress relief is a known practice. Also told the cranks arrive USA unpolished and are polished in the states. Lastly, in reading various posts, there seems to be a number of end users out there and machine shops that have commented on seeing out-of-spec cranks. Scott, can you comment on Summit's incoming QC on these cranks? I remember being at a performance parts supplier that will go un-named and they had a pallet load of Eagle cranks that did not meet specs and they would not use them.

We can probably put that to rest since they come to the states as blanks. So any issues of this nature would be resolved when they are machined here.

with out questions there can be no answers

Everytime I go to the crank grinder I use, he has a new pile of eagle cranks still in the box, waiting to be turned 10/10 to straighten them up. He tells me the machine work is done here. But done poorly. He has his own questions about the metal. When you buy one and an extra 60 dollars to the cost for the grinder.

What does a Eagle crank weigh?
What does a CAT crank weigh?
and what does a stock Pontiac 455 N crank weigh?

I would just send it back and keep tring till you get a crank that is in specs. I know the 455 4.25 stroke crank I am using was spot on and the macine shop had no trouble at all with the crank, or the rods. Summit has a great price on them less then the ebay guys. and summit has the 90 day return.

468 bird...you were lucky.
last year when i was into the middleof my 474 buildup, my NEW eagle 4.25 stroke crank(from JBP) had a rod journal that was not machined correctly.
anyone buying these eagles should make sure that the engine shop checks them out before putting into service.

The Eagle 455" stock stroke, and the Pontiac 455" N crank both weigh 70 lbs. Don't know about the Cat crank as i don't have one.

Ken K, we are a parts warehouse not a machine shop. Eagle is selling rotating kits at a low price that require balancing. If you can find a lower price on the kits already balanced then you should buy it because it would be a heck of a deal.

RSB RACING, We don't check the cranks when they come in. The only time we would do something like that would be if we were getting allot of rtns on a certain part#. We do not stock the Pontiac kits but can get them.

I'm also running on of there cranks & mine was within spec out of the box. But any part that you are going to be pushing the limits to should be checked & possibly heat treated.

If y'all continue to buy these POS products "as is", they will continue to produce them as such.
In order for the quality to improve their sales must be affected.

My engine builder has recently recieved a Eagle 3"/4.250" and a SCAT 3"/4.210", both cranks checked out fine. Again, these were recent purchases so I'm wondering if the dimension problems are a thing of the past. At least hopefuly from quality vendors, it would be a shame to find out that a bunch of previous cranks with known problems are being unloaded into the market by e-bay or from a vender that doesn't care.

On the balance subject... are they left unbalanced because you need to match them up when balancing with the flywheel or flexplate, harmonic balancer and the piston/rod weights ?

"Gofastparts" has a good "feedback" rating and when I called them they did confirm the shipping anywhere in the 48 states, and that they are a "real machine shop" not just some guy who only buys/sells off ebay; so between that and the majority of comments about the Eagle crank here being positive, I think I will GO FOR IT!

Even if it did need some "cleaning up" for $50 to $100 it still seems like a good deal compared to a stock 455 crank and then having that ground down to 3.00".

I AM expecting to pay to have all the parts balanced, that would be the same for any mix of crank-rods-pistons no matter where I got them from.

I own a stock, uncut 455 103 N crank. According to the scale I used, with the balancer bolt and timing gear on the crankshaft, it weighs 63 lbs.

I weighed my old 455 crank that was cut down to a 3" main journal size and it weighs 69 pounds. To check the accuracy of the scale I put a 20 pound barbell weight on it and it indicated 19 pounds.

Was your crank an N nodular? I have a non N nodular 400 crank and it weighs 4 lbs less than a N nodular 400 crank. The scale I used might be off, but since the 455 N crank is loose I can just get it weighed somewhere else. There is a way to get to the bottom of this whole thing since some info is being with held. Eagle advertises their cranks as being made out cast steel, Cat says theirs are nodular iron so they should have different weights.
