8.5 has straps & 7/16" headed bolts on pinion yoke to hold driveshaft in.
OEM 8.2 GTO 10 bolt uses U-bolts & nuts. '68-72 GTO T400 driveshaft will measure 55 3/8" center to center on the u-joints. In Turbo 400 short tailshaft '68-72 GTO & '71-72 bigoutput shaft Muncie, when 8.5 A-body 10 bolt rear is swapped in, oem driveshaft must be cut down to 54"-54 1/8" center to center. I stock & sell both...some folks want one with new R/E. Eyeballing things...There are actually 3 different bolt in axle 8.5 A-body housings that will fit in a pre '72 A-body, & 5 different 8.5 corporate rear covers, identifying by either is not always the wisest.
