Anyone know a company or person in the area of Green Bay to Oshkosh WI where I can rent an engine hoist for a week. Local renting company wants $30 a day. Anyone have one to rent or know of a place where they are fair. Ran out of options.

$30/day is a normal (not fair) price. Try renting from autozone or advanced. I believe they will let you rent it for free. All you have to do is pay for the tool upfront and then when you return it, you will get your money back. Similar to buying and returning it. Also look in the local classifieds and ask around at work. Someone is bound to have one.

At that weekly price you can buy one.
Another thing you can do is make a frame with 4X4 lumber and hang a chain fall from it. Years ago I made one in my parents garage by using the 2X12 joists in the garage and supporting them on each side of the car with 4X4 posts to the floor. Hung a chain fall from the joist, and roll the car underneath. worked well, just be safe. George

I did the same thing as George, except it was from a stout limb on a big Oak tree.

If you ever consider pulling another engine buy a hoist. It's the best investment I ever made. I use it for other things besides engines.

I used mine a couple of years ago to lift out clothes line poles. Other people have used them to lift bodies off of frames. Unlimited uses.

Did some checking and found a couple of models from Harbor Freight (store in town). $150 +- $15

Works great as a lift when your working on Snowmobiles. Last time I borrowed one the guy didn't want it back till needed it, he had welded it together and didn't want to store it.

I just picked one up from harbor Freight last weekend to pull my motor this weekend What is nice is it folds up for easy storage $119.00

For years I rented hoists, often for several days at a time. I finally broke down and purchased a folding unit at Auto Zone a few months back for about $110. Could have bought several for what I spent in renting!
