I am in the process of installing a set of Dynomax Jet-hot coated headers (the quality on these things are excellent for the price, by the way). After removing the oil filter adapter, putting the header in place, and re-installing the adapter, it appears that changing the oil filter will be next to impossible, so I am going with a remote. The Summit 2 filter unit looks nice. Anyone using one? Any comments? Suggestions for mounting lications are welcome (66 GTO).

Thanks

I use one on my 69 firbird. I re-located the filter way up front to the radiator support. Its on the front passenger side of the support, It can not be seen unless I point it out to you and gets plenty of fresh air to aid in cooling. I can also change my filter without making a mess or even bending over, its right there.

There are plenty of places to mount it just take the adaptor with the filter mounted to it and place it in differant areas untill you find a place you will be happy with. Keep in mind when its time to change the oil its going to cover anything under it.

SPEED SAFE, AIR RAM

Im putting together a .040 455 with Edelbrock heads (72cc), Eagle Rods, FLAT top J&E Pistons for 12:1, Harland sharp roller Rockers, Fluidampner, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, and 750 Demon Carb. "GOT TRACTION"

Would it not be best to keep it as close as possible to avoid the possible restriction caused by the two long hoses. Possiblely 4ft x2 pieces? Maybe there isn't any loss in pressure? Is this logic OFF?

Nix the factory oil filter mount and get one from KRE or Nunzi that allow you to plumb hoses directly into. Buy quality AN fittings and braided hose (I've always used #8 with no problems, but many use #10), put the remote mount where you want it, and make your own hose to fit. The hoses in those "quicky" kits are almost never long enough and not of the same quality as if you made them yourself.

Will length of #8 or # 10 to rad support be OK for Mid 10's in 1/4.

That's where I had mine, but I was only running 12's @ 106 MPH.

Remote oil filter doesn't seem like a good idea on a street driven car. Takes too long for the oil to get to the bearings on cold starts. There was a guy on here that lunched his bearings going to work on a and he had a remote filter up on the inner fender. Also using a crap fr*m filter. Did not help that he was running a mix of windshield washer fluid and gasoline for emissions reasons. Also dont't mess with the oil filter by-pass. It's there for a reason (cold engine operation and heavy throttle). My 79 with headers has no problem with the stock filter setup and AC or Wix filters. They come off by going up, then aft, then down and out between the body and the exhaust. Can use a broom handle to temporarily force the engine over slightly if necessary.

3+ years of combined daily driving, weekend cruising, and drag racing with a remote filter arrangement, mounted on the passenger side of the radiator core support, and utilizing a Fram HP-1 racing filter. Problems? Nada. BTW, it was the same engine that lunched a rod that you're speaking of.
