My 89 GP was nearly stolen but all they
did was pull the lock cylinder out of the column! Now the lock wont turn but the wheel does and the floor auto shift wont. What would be more cost effecent: 1. locksmith 2. Dealer or shop (I'd have to have it towed) 3. Swap a differnt column in Brad in Louisville |

If they didn't damage the steering column,I would try replacing the ign. lock.I had a similar problem before (except the shifter deal) and it was easy enough for me to change the lock myself.

choice #2 will probably be the cheapest for you if you 're not going to do the work yourself.

Got a column w/ key for $30 plus trade for labor
Acutally fairly easy to remove 4 bolts to dash panel, bolt at interior u-joint on steering shaft and wiring. The column doesn't protrude into the engine bay at all on this car I guess safer that way. The lock lever to shifter was simple too once i figured it out! The shift button is all thats locked with the key off! Ps the old column was cracked once I looked closer plus With me doing the work its cheaper and now I know a little maor abou the car. Still need to install but I cant see much of a problem. Weathers getting better too. STill steamed over srupidity of thief. But glad they did really know how to still car! |

I assume this happend at home? I think your insurance should pay for it including the tow. I have a good theft deturant at my house. A 180 pound wolf malamute and no one gets in my yard without me there.
