I have a 1977 Y82 T-Top Trans Am.It was originally a 4 sp. I am thinking of parting it out due to excessive floor rust and one rear frame rail is soft. Numbers match and it is a running, driving car.

I have owned 10 2nd gen T/A's over the years, sold most of them so I could get my hands on a '70 R/A IV, the deal fell thru, so I bought the next best thing, a '69 T/A, R/A III, M20, and am very happy with it.

It's in the sig. Been sitting in my parent's driveway for about 6 years; hasn't run in a little over a year. But I got the bug to resurrect her now and I recently yanked the front fender off only to discover a rat-snake living there.

Greetings all,
I have a 1978 gold SE (Y-88) with T-tops. It has the original 400 Pontiac motor w/an automatic trans. I am the 3rd owner of this car, which I purchased approximately 2 years ago. The previous owner repainted the car, but it's still gold (just a little more brilliant than the original gold which had a slight olive tint to it). The day I picked it up, the car smelled of fresh paint (MMMMMMMMMM...)!! It wears all the correct decals and the black pin-stripes (all new)!!! No rust that I can find, but the previous owner had it undercoated (yeah... I know :-( I only drive it in the summer on nice days, about 1000 miles a year. Don't get me wrong, it's no show car (yet anyway) and has a few flaws here and there. But for $5500, I thought it was a decent deal!!

The interior is in excellent shape for the age, no rips or tears... just a little sun faded. My big delima is in regards to rebuilding the engine. I don't know if I should go with the stock rebuild or beef her up a little (I'd like to see about 400 HP). Sorry I got so wordy, I could talk about this car for a long time.... Just ask my girlfriend (I think she get's a little jealous).

It's nice to see so many of you fellow T/A owners out there. Now when I post a question, I'll expect alot of answers !!!!!!!

Take care people,
dyingbreed.

got two TAs now both second gen.

My 78 I bought new, ordered without the "bird" Fisher T tops electric windows.Ordered the WS6 package but was missed on the order, that has been added over the years.Alos missed the dealine for the TA 6.6 and the auto so had a 180 hp 400(I came across one of those I have also. Original interior, had to be repainted in 1988.Currently a E head 455 replaced the RAIV 400 that was in it. 81 rear disc rear 4.10s(replaced the 2.56s in the original rear).Stock mtor with the 2.56s could only pull 4000rpm in high gear, although was 130 on the roadrace course straight. Stock motor just got reassembled and put in the other TA project.11.70s@115 with a bad tranny.

81 Turbo TA -pulled half apart 301 turbo installed 78's stock motor with HO exhaust manifolds,Comp 262/270 Xtreme Energy cam, 73 455/SD Q jet. TH350. 3.08s rear discs. Alot of butchering throught the years getting put right. My 16 year old son is eyeballing for his driver.

Just got my "chicken car" as the wife calls it...79 400 4 speed WS 6 in Heratige brown ("This one is even the color of sh_t" Boss stated..)

Going to change color quickly to 73 Brewster green with 73 style graphics, probably not going to put the big decal on it....YET. Got it in pretty decent shape except paint is bad. Only had to do a few small things to get it on the road, and I'm using it as daily car...At least until I get the 69 GP rolling. Only other TA is a 30th anniv convert, built 9 days before my second son was born. Got too many GPs....if that's possible.

I have a 1981 NASCAR pacecar T/A. I bought it three years ago. It has about 64K miles on it. I recently put a 268-6/268-6 custon grind Comp cam in it. I'm still "monkeying" with the timing and carb settings, the computer's (ESC) probably real confused by now. The inerior is in great shape. I'm constantly improving it with new trim pieces. When I replaced the cam, I completely detailed the engine compartment so it looks real clean. I hope it stays that way after a few hundres miles. The front end is completely new with all poly bushings. I have the rear in stuff and will be rebuilding it soon. I'm trying to make the car "new" again. Check it out at http://www.execpc.com/~steveb/transa...ng/page1.html. Sorry my link doesn't work.
