Just removed my core support from my 70 GTO and although overall it looks great, the mounting holes at the bottom are looking pretty crusty. After I knocked off must of the loose rust, the holes are are about an inch+ in diameter...yuk Anyway, I hate to toss it if anybody has any good tips on salvaging. I am guessing I could fabricate some type of solution, but am looking for some advice....thx!

Jeff, couldn't you yank the whole thing, have a metal fabrication shop bend up a suitable replacement section of metal on a Brake, weld in, then drill out the correct size hole. Just a thought, -Matt

Jeff, That is why they made the repro, they're all rusted out there. Get a price and compare to repro at $199

Very easy fix requiring no special tools or heat.
Grab some metal stock, cut to about 20% bigger than the depth of the support mount area. Use your trusty vice, and bend the front and rear leading edge so you have a U shape that is a force fit into the bottom of the support. Drill a new hole in your patch, and tap it into the support. Make one for each mount hole. Once painted, and installed it is invisible. You could also epoxy it to the bottom of the support for added integrity Great fix for the driver, but obviously not the best choice in a frame off resto. |
