I own a 66 Pontiac LeMans w/ a 326 2bbl. I have currently bought an edelbrock 600 cfm carb along with a 4bbl manifold from a 68 lemans. I also bought a 980-P camshaft and was wondering if this would work. I'm not yet very knowleagable about the more technical information about engines but I just know the basics. I have a turbo 350 auto and I plan on keeping my car a daily driver. If anyone has any suggestions please help! Thanks

the cam is made by Elgin but there isnt much more I can tell you except that I want to be really careful about this because I dont want to screw my engine up or anything. I have some more detailed information on the camshaft if you need it. I dont know much about camshafts so if u have any suggestions please help. Thanks

Do they also offer a 420/443 204/214 cam? If so you may be happier with it for a daily driver. The 214/224 cam is a little big for your 326 unless you have or plan to have a 2400+ converter and/or 3.73+ gear. Another (and better IMO) choice would be to get a Crane blueprint of the Pontiac #9779066 cam; it is a little milder yet.

You might also try the Summit 2800, it's a higher lift version of the factory 066 cam 204/214 @ .050 with .420/.442 lift. It would work fine with stock replacement springs.
This would probably work well with your combo but more info is really needed to be sure. Are you making other mods as well? Exhaust needs to be looked at as well as it doesn't do you alot of good to add a bigger cam and more intake capability if you don't upgrade your exhaust to go with it. Just my .02 Jeff

These were the only mods I was going to make to the car since I would like to keep everything as stock as possible with a few modifications. My current exhaust are turbo mufflers which give the car a nice mellow sound but maybe not as much breathability as say stage 3 flowmaster exhaust which I am thinkin about upgrading to. I dont have much of a budget but the money I am making goes straight to my car. If you would like for your sake I can give you the Adv. Timing, .050 Timing, Cam lift, LASH Hot, Adv. Dur. if this would be of any help to you. I like the idea of the summit 2800 so i'll check that out today and see if I cant return my current cam since It hasnt been used. It does sound bigger but I will also check my LeMans shop manual for cam sizes etc. Where might I find a crane blueprint? Thanks for the help guys

I agree with Warped...If you were running a 400, the cam would be perfect but it is a little much for a mild 326 combo. When it comes to camshafts, very often smaller is better. Overcamming an engine is, in my opinion, one of the most common mistakes in the engine building process.

Thanks for the help guys...At this very moment I'm headed out the door to pick up my hydraulic lifters and return my old cam for something suitable for what you suggested. I'll let ya'll know how the installation goes and i'm sure i'll have more questions for you when the time comes. Thanks Again!
