What is a good baseline timing for a car with alcohol injection. Some tell me low as 28 to 30 degree timing. Would that low of timing really work. Pontiac 455, roller came, Victor intake, Flying Toilet just got the motor running.
Thanks |

I ran methanol for many years of competition, both unblown and 6-71 blown. The iron engine with -16 heads (stock chambers & ports) liked approximately the same timing as on gasoline, about 36 degrees unblown and about 34 degrees blown (only about 12psi). The unblown version had all of the fuel going into port nozzles, none at the hat.

RL I also run a toilet in my 66 gto.36 is always what I have run on the timing.Do yourself a favor and purchase the T and T book from Ron's. It helps you get your basline going so you can get that thing dialed in. I would also put a vacum pump on it. Good luck and have fun because that alky sure pulls HARD! Mike

Pontiacs4ever2000, I do have a vacuum pump from aerospacecomponents and it really pulls out the moisture out of the motor. I will try 36 and see how it responses. What is the T and T book from Ron's. Something new that just come out? I'm running E-heads. I know it pulls hard, I just decided to start back racing after 2 years and forgot alot of things. I will need help as times goes on.
Thanks, Rickey |

I should also have mentioned that my timing was fixed in my competition engines- no advance of any kind. My cams always had a lot of overlap, so they never "kicked back" when starting, even when starting cold on gasoline.

RL the T and T was a wrong choice of words. Its their book on how to test and tune w/a toilet injection system. Its very interesting.
Do you have any exhaust temp probes? If not you might want to have aleast 1.I only have 1 but wish I could afford 1 for all 8.(lots of coin) I don t have alot of experience with the vacume pumps but have heard that the pump you have may not last as long as the Moroso.Keep an eye on it and your oil.Might even put a rebuild kit in it after the 1st season. I also run the E-Heads but will be switching over to the new KRE race heads. Good luck and drop me a line at http://www.tinindianperformance.com if I can help with anything. Mike Williams |
