Could someone go over the sequence for port matching intake manifolds to heads. I'm putting an Edelbrock Performer RPM on my #96 heads with my 455. I kind of need a Port matching for Dummies type of explanation. How much does it really help? For a street driven car is it really necessary? Thanks everyone..Gary

Usually the heads will be matched to a certain size intake gasket, a size that is close to the intake port openings. Then the manifold will be matched to the same size gaskets that the heads were matched to.

For a street car I personally wouldn't bother to match the intake to the heads, unless it is a max-effort type of street car with fairly heavily ported heads. If your heads are stock or just mildly ported, bolt it on and go.

Let's go racing!

Pick-up a copy of the latest Circle Track Magazine!

It has a great article on port-matching intakes to cylinder heads!

Is it really necessary, No.

Will it make a differance, yes but in all likelyhood you won't be able to tell.

Yup, just slap it on and go!

But just keep in mind that it's the details that add up.

Oh yes, concerning those bearing clearances.... oh never mind, just slap them in and go

'Damn right it's a street car'
