Just curious! I currently bracket race a '60 Ventura and have a '60 Ventura show car. Does any one on this board race any Pontiacs 61 and older.
After two trips to Norwalk and not seeing any sixties I decided to put one together even though my favorite Ponchos are the 61's.

I am curently building a 61 Ventura. I will be takeing it to Kevin Constant tommorow for the roll bar and some slight massaging of the rear wheel tubs. I hope to have it together this summer some time. 455 with E heads and dual 4's. It will be Coronado red with a new interior from SMS interiors. The rotating assembly is from JBP and the machine work by Schotler engine service in Wichita Ks.

Jim,

Kenneth Davis out of Texas has several 60's. He races the Jim Wangers clone and his son races a black 60 with a 455. Kenneth has been to Norwalk more than once with his plus the Pontiac Southern Nationals.

Both Kenneth and I plan on attending Norwalk with his 60 and my 66 LeMans.

Jim'
Hate to sound stupid but is this a drag car or a circle track car? Just wondering, I worked for a couple of NASCAR teams in the 60's. We ran Pontiacs

JIM: Sounds like a neat Poncho in the making.
I don't want to cage my car so I'll just keep
the performance level down. Shooting for
12.0-12.1's. All 4300 lbs. of it.(LOL)

FLOYD: I have known Ken for while and finally met
him at the POCI Convention this year. We
actually got to race side by side while
in WVA. We also got together at Norwalk
for the Tri-power Nationals. Given the
racing heritage of Ken's Hot Chief #1 I
was surprised the track didn't talk this
car up more. The Boat Tail 26 rodster was
neat but..........it was a "Hill Climber".
I have also had input from Jim and Tom
Hand on my 60 "Arapaho" clone. This car
a local race car in my area which I never
forgot. I own the original but it's a
rust bucket

Pontiac did rule Nascar in the sixties
Marvin Paunch's cloned 60 Pontiac that
won the 61 Daytona 500 is a neat car.
It should be at next years POCOI meet and
possibly Norwalk.

I really struggled with putting a cage in the car as it was an original Tri Power 4 speed car. It was a single exhaust 313 hp car . Joe Cochran was visiting last fall and said, "Hell you can always take a cage out of the car" I am not going to gut it in any way. Original interior, and no fiberglass. I have always thought the 60trough 63 cars were the best looking Pontiac ever built. Hope that it will run 11.50.

I love the 61's and 62's. I started on a 61 Catalina conv to drive about 4 years back. Minitubbed it, clipped the front frame and put on one from a '75 Lemans. The side rails just fit inside the stock 61s so it was easy. The Trans Am components fit. I plan to put a lot of miles on it so I want this thing to handle and stop nice. It'll have a/c, 4 wheel discs, 455 e heads, 400 thm. I stopped on this cool project to put a real race car together first. Now it sits with a tarp on it, maybe in the next few years when time allows. Right now I want to go fast. I think of driving that 61 conv almost everyday. Also got a 61 bubble top tucked away for a future street car. The body style is so good looking!
There is a nice restored, e-headed, 4 speeded, '61 2 dr sedan featured on my site (race cars page). Owned by Ken Ondrejko, he'll be at my event on April 5 and 6 here in Phoenix. Steve www.pontiacheaven.org

Have any of you guys got pics of your '60 Pontiacs that you could email me????

[email protected]

I can never find and decent pics of any 60's that have been done up.

I'm currently organising a 474ci engine that will be injected and supercharged to go into my '60.

My mate has a '60 that he converted to a 2 door...It's got a 572ci chev in it...it's pretty wild.

Steve,

When you minitubed your 61, what did you do about the rear frame rails, and do you have any pictures showing the sub frame installation and tubs???
Thanks,

Tim T

Tim, I don't have any pics of the frame work yet. The car is sitting in my side yard with a tarp over it and a '68 firebird fiberglass funny car body on top of it so, I can't get to it now. I do have some pics of the minitubs somewhere. This work was done in 1999 on a rotiserie. The work is very clean and looks stock from inside the trunk unless you know the correct size. I also had a couple of sets of axles machined for the 4 3/4" bolt pattern to match the front. One day..... It is originally Camoe Ivory with blue int w power windows and antenna. I'm thinking of painting her Rainier Turquoise.
Another started '61 project is my 9 pass Seacrest Green w/green int Catalina that I am front frame clipping. For this one, I'm using a '78 Bonnevile Safari front frame. This one has bigger rotors and uses the 5 on 5 bolt pattern. I want to use this one as my race car hauler, the better suspension geometry and brakes will make it tow better, safer.

Here's a shot of 60man (Troy) heating the hoops in his Ventura.

Shot was taken at the Royal GTO's fall 2002 drag day at M.I.R. in Budd's Creek, MD.

GAS455--I would sure like to see some pics of the sixties that you are building. They sound like sweet rides. Let me know how they run. My Black Ventura is basicly stock with 464 engine and drivetain mods. Still running Tri-power and old fender well dump Headmans.

61MAN- definitly sweet 61's. Was Joe at Norwalk this year?

I may eventually cage mine if my need for speed needs fueling. I will pull Tri-power and go with four barrel with "fuuny gas" to cure need. I am trying my best to keep cars appareance period correct and see what times it will turn.

STEVE- Wouldn't happen to have any pics of Bill Graces car would you?

Brian--Nice picture. Thanks

I'll email you some pics of my car and I'll try and get a pic of my mates car.

I'm getting a diff built for my '60 at the moment.

9" Detroit Locker, Mark Williams Nodular case, 35 Spline Billet Mark Williams axles ,late model disc brakes.

I don't want it to break when the new engine goes in so I want it nice and strong.
