Hey guys,

With my little GTO project, I inherited 2 rearends. One is labeled with with a WF and the other with a WD. I believe these to be a .293 and .323. With a 400 HO and 4 speed manual tranny, which rearend would be the best.

Thanks in advance,

matt

The 3.23 gears would be just about ideal for a 400 HO-powered 4-speed car. I have a '69 400 (non-HO with A/C) 4-speed Firebird that came with 3.23 gears from the factory, just a slight amount of clutch slipping is needed to get moving from a stop.

The 2.93 gears would be a bit too tall, you would have to slip the clutch excessively to get going from a stop. If you had 3.55 gears they would be even better, but between the two gears you have to choose from 3.23s are no doubt the way to go.

Let's go racing!
