Maybe someone has a simple solution. I have been working on various wiring issues with my car. I put in a new starter and a new alternator, when I got everything hooked back up, the engine won't turn over. When I turn the key to start it, all power cuts off and I have to disconnect the battery before power comes back. The car is a 1970 GTO with a rebuilt 428. Please help.

I would check the wires you connected to the starter solenoid. The starter and/or the solenoid may be defective, too. The best way to check that is to take it back to the place you bought the starter from and have them test it for you.

Also may want to make sure your connections are all tight and clean. A loose or corroded connection can have power and then when you try to crank it will lose the connection altogether. Check ground cable on the block for good tight connection and again on starter. Also i posted a wiring diagram in this section for 70 gtos, maybe this can help you out some. Here is the link:
