does anyone have pictures of or thought of doing trunk or underside coating with that spray in bedliner stuff?

I was thinking of doing it on my 69 Judge floors (inside & outside) and in my trunk & inner quarters.

I figured it would be a good preserver as well as a sound deadner. It can be painted too...

I watched trucks on spike tv and stacey had a older bronco,after replacing the floorboards and rockers. He took it to a linex dealer they taped off where it was going to get painted,they sprayed under the body and inside floors.He said to make sure to plug any holes that you need to use as linex is near impossible to remove.They also mixed the color he wanted.

Interesting, they lay that stuff on thick I wonder how much weight it would ad?

I`ve seen it used on a `34 Chevy pickup that was being made into a show only vehicle. Stuff is hard as steel. You can hit it with a hammer and it won`t chip. Also, it won`t let air or water underneath it. It looked good on that pickup. The guy had about 30k into the truck when I saw it, and they weren`t done yet. If it`s good enough for him, I guess it`s good enough for my driver.

I had Rhino liner put in the bed of my pickup, and the guy who did the work said he does a lot of undercoating for people restoring vehicles. Sometimes they just do the fender wells, sometimes the entire underside.

It is pretty dense and heavy stuff, but they can control how thick they put it on. They can also color match the material (at least Rhino can, I don't know for sure about other brands) - I gave them the color code for the paint on my truck and they were able to custom mix the liner material to an exact match.

I did think about the weight, but also thought that a thinner coat wouldn't be too bad.

Mine will be a driver, and I figure it is chip resistant, tough as hell...it should keep a nice car looking nice...

I used it on my '70 in the trunk and wheelwells. The body supply I bought it at provided a tint an once applied it looks just like the undercoat. It is hard as rock and is easy to keep clean. I'd highly recommend it. As far as weight goes I don't think it weighs any more than the actual undercoat it replaces.

I've seen "rocker gaurd " used in wheel wells and on the undersides also , it would be good for a daily driver. i'm going this route. mike.

Where do ya get this "rocker-guard", Mike? Is there a website?

Used on inside and out of floors, I bet it really deadens the sound with all the additional mass.

CD 3m carries it , look up gravel gaurd , it's like the spray on bed liner just a thin coat and it comes in tan or black . some body shops use it on the rocker area to stop stone chips . i beleive the tan is tintable or paint just goes over it. mike.

evil stu - did you use it inside and outside of trunk?

My thought was outside wheel wells (what is exposed to the wheel), inner and outer trunk floor and at least the inside or the of the floor pan...possibly both.

I am planning go with an actual company, rather the 3M stuff. I am not really looking for that texture on the underside of my car, but don't know if it will be avoided with a commercial job either.

As I said in an earlier post, I had a rhino bedliner sprayed into the trunk of my GTO, including the inside inner fenders and the trunk side of the wheel wells. As you all know, the 68-72 GM "A" Body is famous for the back window leaking into the trunk area. Even after replacing the rear window panel and re-sealing the window with a brand new kit, my rear window leaks a bit. Now, its not such a concern, as the little bit that does leak cannot touch steel...I'll have to go out to the garage, uncover the old goat, and see if I can get a photo.

As far as weight goes,how much does a gallon of paint weigh? It won't weigh any more after you spray it on than it does in the can

I used the bedliner not the 3m rocker guard. I applied it to the front inner fenders (toward the wheel, the other side is base cleared), the inside of the trunk (very similar result to the photo above), the inside of the floorpans from toeboards to rear seat divider and on the inside of the rear wheel houses. I didn't use it on the underside of the floors as I didn't want the texture either.

The 'rocker guard' is a good product but it isn't the same thing. I don't think I would use it on the interior surfaces.

The bedliner is applied using a Schutz gun, so the texture is inherant, commercially applied or otherwise. You couldn't thin the stuff sufficiently to use a conventional gun.

If you still want photos check back Tuesday evening. I'm away for the weekend and don't have access right now.

Hey Stu:

I need three clear weeks of rain to get the salt off the highways, and then I'm good to go...shooting for the Mother's Day weekend. I am currently putting in a complete energy suspension, and tidying up some odds and ends, but looking forward to a long summer cruising Nova Scotia. There's three 69's here in Greenwood besides mine. Up the road there's a mint 69 Judge showcar, and a beautiful 69 Ram Air III that just showed up from 9 Mile River...not bad for a town of 6,000 to have three 69 GTO's.

I am convinced. Trunk is getting it, interior floors are getting it, wheel wells facing the tires are getting it. I will blast the underside and use the POR products on that!
