Default New Oil Pump with Two Types of Springs

When I received my Melling M54D-S oil pump it contained two springs of different size. One spring measures 1"-50/64 and the other is longer which came installed in the pump. Which spring is required for a stock 65 389 as there were no instructions included for choosing the right spring?

The longer spring will give you about 60 psi at road speed.

The short one is about 40 psi for older 389 type cruiser vehicles that
old people drove and were never revved over 4000.

I would always use the longer spring except in a pure fuel economy vehicle where the shorter spring "might" take slightly less road hp.
