I've finally moved from dis-assembly to re-assembly on my 71 GTO. I'm reinstalling the interior and don't know where a wire connects. It is a purple wire that come from under the dash on the passenger side, runs rearward on the passenger floors and is about long enough to reach the package tray area. It has a female spade connector end. The window defrost is already connected on the drivers side.

As best as I can remember it wasn't hooked up when I got the car and tore it apart.

Any ideas ?

Well Glen, the only idea I would have is that it is the neutral safety switch wire. That's the only purple wire I have in my 65.

1970 had a single blue wire that ran rearword for rear speaker.

What color is the defrost wire?
Is your car a convertible?

The defrost or the power convertible top used a purple wire.

not the neutral sw. that`s a large purple wire that goes to the steering col. base switch, sounds like the rear speaker wire, don`t think it`s long enough for the power trunk option, where does it attach under the dash?

It's not a convertible. Does the defrost have one or two plugs ? It is already connected to a wire on the drivers side and I don't see where there would be a plug on the other side - could be broke off I suppose.

I can't trace the origin of the wire without some major disaaembly so I am hoping for the "easy way out".

Another question - it has an AM/FM radio installed - would it have had rear speakers, because there are none and would they have run the speaker wire regardless on the assembly line ? (the package tray was missing also so the doesn't help)

I suppose I could put power to the radio and see if the wire has any voltage.

What is the color of the wire you connected to the defogger?

The car probably didn't have rear speakers.
The rear speaker wires were usually dark blue and were run to the back,whether used or not.

Thanks for the replies and schematics. As best as I can tell it's for the radio speakers. Why's it purple ? I have no idea but I'm not using it anyway, so I'll leave it where I found it.

Next up - first firing of the engine this afternoon.
