Default Gear upgrade

'67 GTO 400/400 w/2.93 gears (posi). I'm running a Comp 280h cam. I have changed the stall to 2600 rpm and need to do the rear end. It is a 10 bolt 8.2" original to car. I have talked to local speed shops and have gotten different answers as to what's available. One says "You can't get gears for it" and the other says "no problem".
My question is, what exactly do I need to change from 2.93 to 3.55 or 3.73 gears ?
Thanks,
ER

Thanks for the help so far.
Let me rephrase my question.
Is it simply replacing the ring and pinion and an install kit ?

i think a spacer will be required going a full number higher to reuse your carrier but they are cheep..lots of aftermaret vendors make gears for 8.2" ten bolts all you will have to worrie about is what ratio you want ..then get a ring and pinion install kit with all the bearing and seals and your good to go....Also it would be a good time to rebuild the posi if it is one that way you wont have to mess with it for a long time....Cheers

There are spacers for the later rears 8.5 and 2:93 rears will handle all the big ratios.
8.2 rears come in 3 housings. 2:73 down, 2:93-3:36, 3:55 up I believe.

Oh, by the way. your local speed shop's (Austin Tx) Only one even knows something.
For rears, Try Austin drivetrain, Drivetrain specialities, or I have a Friend that builds great rears for cars. (If you can find him and he's sometimes months to get it done)
