O k,what i have done is layed over the complete trunk floor is some carpet underlay and a piece of 1/2 inch gyp rock on the flat floor area to give it some decent contact to the floor area.I am going for a test drive and will let you guys know how it effected the exhaust noise within the car.If I have some partial success i will look for a rubber mat for the trunk thta these cars had as an option and install.We wil see or hear

Well the carpet in the trunk didn't have any effect.Next to adding more hangers which I really do not want to do to a restored 71 T/A,because there are no holes in the floor pan,I may investigate putting the stock muffler on.At least it will be a quieter exhaust system,even though I may lose a few ponies.I proably will leave the PyPes "X" cross in place and run 2.5 inch pipe to the stock muffler and 2 1/4 tail pipes.

Well before I go to a stock system I put my super turbo,s I had hanging around onto this car ,just to see what difference they make.It is definatly quieter all round with a real low bass soft sound now,but the resonance is still there at a wider Rpm range now 2200 to 2600 .Mind you it is a quieter muffled resonance sound.I think I will drive it like this for awhile and see how the sound changes as the packing in the turbo,s moves around a bit and gets wet from condesation.

Well, you're certainly willing to put some effort into trying things! Thanks for sharing.
Is there room to add small traditional resonators anywhere? I don't know all the design considerations for where to place them- but many big-engine cars like Rivieras had them as original equipment. Maybe you could take a clue from where the factories positioned them? I really doubt that they would hurt performance much.
P.S.- Just realized I shouldn't have said just "big cars"- my '75 Mercury Bobcat (a Mercury Pinto) with V6 has dual resonators as original equipment! They're nothing but small oval-case glasspacks, maybe 12" long. And they ARE needed- the prior owner had substituted pipe for them and I couldn't stand the interior noise level.

The 455SD had resonators with the traverse stock muffler and they were located in the raised floor area underneath the rear seats were we all traditionally put aftermarket mufflers.The tunnel area were I have my pipes running is pretty tight for a 4 inch diameter resonator,which is were I would think they would have to go.
But at the moment I am seriously considering the traverse muffler system again.But the question is will the resonance still be there with a stock muffler.If it is I could then utilize he raised floor area for resonators or I could use the super turbo,s as resonators.Would that work?
Do you really lose that much power with a 455,2.5 inch ppes and a stock muffler?

Anybody out there running a stock traverse muffler with 2.5 inch system.I have heard the sound clips of the pypes system but a little loud for my liking ,but maybe with resonators it would be OK??Or what would anybody out there recommend for a traverse muffler.??I know Magnaflow and dynamax make them and so does flowmaster,but I have used flowmaster before.Alone its extremely loud.I put 50 series flowmasters before the traverse on the last car I had and it was ok,but what a job.

I put the entire Pypes system on my '71 TA HO.
Downpipes from the stock manifolds, xpipe,
their transverse muffler, and the stainless extensions
that look just like the chrome tips.
I'm not really thrilled with the sound.
Too "clacky". I prefer the lower frequency stuff.
I also have the drone at cruising speeds (55 mph),
but it clears up at 65 mph.
I too am willing to change mufflers if anyone has any advice
for a transverse with the same flow, but much throatier.
