I have a 12 bolt rearend that I have an eaton posi and 3.73 gears for. How hard is it to install a new posi carrier and gears for a first timer? Are there any books or videos that I can get to learn how? Or should I just pay the local differential guy 300.00? Is it that difficult? Thanks guys.

They're not too difficult to set up, but you will need a few tools, and some patience. There's a member over at Team Chevelle who's s/n is BigGearHead who does it for a living. He can give you a real good rundown on what you'll need for the tools, what you'll be looking for on torque specs and gear patterns, etc. Basically, if you start with the same thickness of pinion shims that are on the old pinion gear, it'll put you in the ballpark as far as depth goes. Set the backlash, and check the pattern. What you find will determine what you'll do next. So theoretically, you should expect to have it apart maybe 3-4 times, making adjustments to the pinion and carrier shim packs. This is where the patience comes in handy. If you do go to Team Chevelle seeking advice from BGH, I'd suggest a search of his previous posts first, as he's laid it out with pics, etc. a few times. Saves waiting on an answer for a day or more.
![]() Kingman, I've been there a handful of times, in the summer. My dad lives there. He plays a lot of golf. I sold him my old 914 Porsche a few years back, you might've seen it around. It used to be red, last I saw it, some kid at the Midas owned it, was going to repaint it.
