Default Another Pontiac/Hampton blower coming!

Well, my lovely bride surprised the hell out of me when she announced that Dad is getting a Hampton 8-71 for my 428 in the LeMans. I've been reading the posts of Supergas Dil, and others, gotta say I'm about as jazzed as it gets! Due to budget constraints though, I'll be using the stock 428 cast crank with a second keyway cut in the snout. I just freshened the shortblock last winter, but will tear down again for inspection, possible rings and bearings. The motor has about a dozen 250 nitrous hits on it, so the crank will get magged again. I've always liked this little 428, so the 455 will go on the back burner til next winter. I'm running Eagle H beams, and Ross pistons with a 20cc dish. I have enough sets of heads to get the CR at 8, or 8.5 to 1. Talked to Don Hampton today, and he seems like a heck of a guy. Looking forward to doing business with him. I'll be back to talk about cam choice, currently running an Ultradyne 288/296 adv. solid flat tappet. I think I need a LSA greater than 106? ANY of you guys have input, I'm all ears! This is my first blower set-up, and I have a lot to learn. Thanks in advance, will post progress.

I also have the Hampton 8/71 & I will say Don is a very nice man to do business with I like mine very much. Bolts on with no hassle & was one of the easiest motors I ever fired & yes the LSA needed to be around 110 or 112

HEHE! Thanks Brian, gave me a good laugh this morning. 73Firebird, I'd like to talk to you more about your combo, if you are willing. I'll send you a PM with some questions if you don't mind. I've always enjoyed the fact that in a sea of Camaros, and Mustangs at the track, My little '63 LeMans is unique, Well, now the older guys that remember these cars will have some real eye candy! I'm hoping to produce around 800 usable HP with this set-up, maybe more? I know the blower eats some of that, but not certain what the net result will be. Since I'm working at the track now, my seat time is greatly reduced. So I'll be pretty much just heads-up racing on Saturday nights. It won't see one hard pass after another like when I bracket raced for points. Kind of bring it out, make a WOW! pass, and go back to work. Should be fun. I'll be CC'ing the heads I have, think I've got the combo for about 8.3 to 1 CR.

My combo hasn't been built yet...it's still "on paper". Nonetheless I doubt you will be able to glean anything from it as it will feature a 14-71 with alky injection. There are a few guys on here though that have blown gas combo's they run on the street, Perhaps they can chime in. Bill Bolin? Anybody?

I am intrigued by the alky thing, and even saw on here someone talking about nitrous as a chemical intercooler? Interesting, but would that be a tuning nightmare? I viewed the cooling benefits of alky as a plus, but haven't seen, say, a Ron's flying toilet on a blower set-up. Anyone have thoughts on this? I have plenty of nitrous gear, but hesitate.

Street car? I wouldn't even consider alcohol as a fuel. Nitrous as a "chemical intercooler"? Sure...plenty of racers (and street freaks) have run a nitrous plate on top of a roots blower.

OldInjun.....you can email me and ask any questions you want. I'll give you all the info on the stuff I'm using. [email protected]
I do believe in nitrous on top of the blower also. I have one system on it now and will be adding a second system.

Nope, not a street car. '63 LeMans, all steel, Ladder bars with coil-overs and 10.5 slicks. Best ET to date; 10.41 @ 128 MPH on 250 shot at top of first gear.

I would suggest joining the www.hre.com board. Alot of knowledgable alky racers there, both naturally aspirated and blown. I've picked up more info from there about dialing in mechanical fuel injection than from anyplace else.

Jeesh, I sort of feel like Dangerfield here.... Understandable I guess as I don't post 'all the time' and most of these guys all run faster - and their cars are heavier too Well there's that and I don't run Hampton.

In any case, if I can do anything to point you in the right direction for your setup drop me a line a [email protected]. My profile is likely old and out of date...

Alcohol is certainly an option for real Roots power. I've considered it but I'm confident I can get to the 8.50 range with my pig on gas and I have no intention of trying tocertify a stock chassis 2nd Gen for any more.

800hp is a cinch.

Why do all you guys insist on buying new Hampton blowers?

I don't get it.

www.rbssuperchargers.com

New, used and everything in between. JR rebuilds his own blowers, as well as doing a fine job on customers' stuff.

Give him a call next time.

Ok, here I am.
Very cool and glad to hear about the new addition to your family. I think Don is the man! He is a one man shop so he usually has a list of blower builds so you have to take a number, wait your turn and be very patient. But it's worth the wait. And he is totally cool about spending time with you on the phone. He doesn't like email so don't rely on that.

I just picked up another new upper pulley and an Enderle Bugcatcher and fuel system from him a couple of weeks ago.

If you are interested in a solid flat tappet cam, springs, lifters I'll make you a smokin deal. I'll have to dig out the card but I think it's about .264/ 272 @.050 and around .550 lift 112 LSA sounds *****in, very responsive, and a great first cam for a new blower set up

462, did you happen to find that pump mount?
