nice setup
here are some picts of our 4cyl. rusty do you know how much hp. you are making? we hope to make about 600or more.- 389crank,eagle rods 4.195 je pistons(8.53:1) v8 roller cam, #62 highlyported haed, 2'header, procharger p60023#boost and air/water intercooler.

i believe I have talked to you during the year. Are you running a V8 crankshaft? If so, how does it run? It looks like it,s complete and redy to test. Any runs yet?

not running yet. almost ready. need to wire the car and finish a bunch of little thing. will have done by spring. your are coorect, me and my dad have both spoke with you. i am impressed w/ how good you car runs. tom v. thanks for the incouragement.

ponchospidel, You said you are running a V-8 roller cam. Have you tried this before. The reason I ask is I tried a V-8 cam and it wouldn't start, because the valve timing is different. The 4 cyl and the V-8 timing is different. I guess I should have put this motor in a car, I guess a Jeep doesn't count as a racer to some on this board. But I do thank you for your nice comment's and all the rest of the guy's that made nice comment's too. THANK YOU

v8 parts in 4cyl.??
rusty, we are running a 389 v8 crankshaft also. it's just the same as taking the 4 plug wire off the drivers side of a v8. the engine will still run fine and you will have power to the crankshaft ever 90' instead of 180'. the assymbly runs rods that were cut off and and used as slaves on the extra jornals. we'll find out if it works or not. you are coorect there is no way a v8cam would work with the original 4cyl flat crankshaft. any guess as to how much power you are making???. best luck brad spidel.

Slowspitzer, I will agree with you on that. Did you make it over the hill when you tried it. If you did you get a special trophy for going over the first time. That is an awesome hill. Some of the other machines that run there would surprise alot of people. Have you seen the Orange Chevy truck with the BES small block. It makes 864hp on the motor, and then he put's a 500 hp shot of nitrous on it. It is one fast truck.

ponchospidel, Brad, I wish you good luck with your 4 cyl. I am making around 700 hp I run 18lbs of boost and run alcohol. Of course, I am alway's looking to go faster, It get's very addictive. It is also a blast to beat a V-8 with a 4 cyl. It would be nice if we could get a stronger block, then you could make even more horespower. Like I said before, GOOD LUCK

SlowSpitzer, What class were you in, when you tried the hill. This year they had the back of the hill very steep. Had to watch when you went over, so you didn't nose dive it.

I think XB. I heard they had one crash after he went over the hill. Pretty hairy.

Big Elim.....
Went over Big Elim in 1977 with a Pontiac 4 cyl powered M38-A1 Jeep.... got over the first time.... then to eliminate, you moved up the hill further for start... had a t-10 4 speed... and no line lock.....
 Was the second 4 cyl over..... the first was one of the US Mule jeeps... also Pontiac powered...... Bill Faber and Andy Batistia (not sure on spell).... from NJ.... this was the start of our experience with these engines.....in two subsequent jeeps......... made quite a few good folks spend $$ keeping up with it...  Love those 7k launches with the clutched turbo 400

actually, no....
raced a 'circuit' in Va, WVa, NC, SC until 1982... won class championships, and overall championships during that time. 2500 LBS... w/o driver... ~ 200 ci, brooks rods, ross pistons, RAIV head and many different intake/ exhaust combinations...(they kept changing the rules on us... .... fairbanks clutched turbo 400.thru a chain drive transfer case we built.... the body at that time was m38A1 rear grafted to a cj2a cowl and ford 'jeep' front fenders, grille, etc.. and a modified ford frame.. 14.50 paddle tires on rear. Never took this one to Gravelrama.... our time really ended with a spun rod bearing ... in 1982-83... did a cost/benefit 'analysis' for a new combo....brought it home and have it in storage.... maybe one day to build a 'running' block for kicks and giggles... as time permits ( and if i can find them) may can post a few images... . |
