I have a noise coming from the torque converter area.I have had engine out and replaced flexplate.Has anyone ever had this problem?I suspect the converter is bad but someone may know better.G/box is aTH350 behind a 75 400.Other than this (worse under acceleration)everything works as it should.Best way to describe noise is as if there is a piece of metal bouncing around.

i had an issue where my torque converter cover was bent just enough that the flexplates teeth were nicking it, making a sound similiar to yours. just something to think about.

I just had this problem a few weeks ago, I dropped one of the shims from the starter into the cover while replacing it and somehow didnt know it. It rattled a lot!

There is no cover on at the moment and no missing starter shims.Looks like i`ll have to swap converter and go from there.Thanks anyway.

Hopefully the flexplate isn't cracked.

Check to see if the starter shimes are aligned with the starter mount.
I saw a starter shim once that missed the inner bolt and was stincking out toward the flywheel. Made a racket.

I had something like this a few years back.
It turned out that part of the converter tube that engages the front pump had cracked off.
Everything still worked, but it chewed up the front bushing pretty good.
This sounded more like a rod knock to me, but rattle might also discribe it.

my Torque Converter made the same noise about 9 years ago. A continous rattle when in Park and Drive and disappeared when driving. Replace the old Torque converter with a remanfactured one and still running after 9 years. The fly wheel makes a nosie too when cracked and the Unirversal joints when accelerating..
