are there brake pads that work better than stock?
i have low vaccum nearing idle...are there brake pads that have more stopping power than your normal stock pads...? my pads are also probably at the least 15 years old with very little wear...the car was sitting for about five years not running...does age affect them?

Your pads will be fine as long as they are not glazed over or soaked with oils or lubricants, ect...Your drums and rotors are a concern though, check for rust damage and trueness. If you are starving from low vacuum maybe you need to change your cam set up or add a vacuum pump which will keep your brake booster (if power assisted) at peak performane levels. Check these items and report back. Tim

i knocked all the rust off of the rotors with a wire brush (diegrinder/wirebrush)...i should double check pads now that ive been driving it for a while...maybe sand them lightly a bit...?...im keeping the cam for now to put time and $$ into other details..this motor was actually something to get me by while i built another 455...but this 406 runs so good!!!

I've had real good luck with Hawk pads. I use them on my daily driver 3/4 work van. Very noticable difference when fully loaded. I've got over 35,000 miles of city driving on them and they look to have plenty of life left. Will use again.

YES!! get ceramic brake pads. autozone has them in stock for my 72. any semi metal, or metal pad will eventually ruin the rotor, as it fulfills its lifetime warranty (UGH right!) gotta wonder why the part thats supposed to wear out has a lifetime warranty, and the rort has NO warranty?? hmm something doesnt jive?? get ceramic pads, last twice as long, no dust and saves the rotors!
