I ran the HO Racing Tri-Y headers for a number of years before switching to Doug's Headers. My Doug's Headers do not hang any lower than my HO Racing Tri-Y headers did.
If you bet that Doug's Headers hang low you would lose the bet.

Fit great. You have to change the Oil Filter to a smaller one. It took an hour to crush the old one which was put on before the headers ( the Escalade Northstar filter works).

Fantastic pictures! Thanks! The HP-2 Fram filter would be be too long eh? How about the ground clearance? How far below the front K member under the engine would you say the headers hang? That is where I ran into problems with ground clearance with the Hooker headers. I do not do dry hops any more because of that problem. (Only in avatars!)

BigMike, Im pulling the motor from the car I just bought. Althought its a 64 Abody, the weight and hp and tracktimes are very close to yours, I mention that as reference to the performance of the Dougs on this car. I didnt measure the primaries 1 7/8? 3 1/2 collectors fit up very close, can barely see them under the rocker. 461/Eheads. I was surprised at the ease removing the Dougs, I expect they will reinstall without too much cursing. Coated, after nearly 3 years they still look new. Easy to see they are a quality product. Heavy flanges, beautiful welds, great clearance. Cant say about the filter, its on the firewall. If I were buying new, I would have to flip a coin on the MadDog or the Dougs.

Ok Mike, Here is another pic. I measured and the space below the K member to the header is right at 2". The measurement off the ground to the lowest part of the header is 6". I don't race so I dont feel your angst but I hope this helps. By the way the problem with the filter was not length. It was diameter. We could not get it in or out of the header "cage".

I had trouble finding any info on Doug's Headers, it seems they where bought out. It seems like bigger is not always better when it comes to somethings.

Nothing listed under products for Pontiac except a 1 and 5/8 headrer for 70s Firebirds. Pictures are definitely not Doug's . . .
This is disturbing.

Pics are definately Dougs. 3 " Oval Trademark is clearly stamped into the Header. Bought them personally directly from Doug's for a 67 GTO. When the Super Comp Hookers I bought from Summit did not fit. The website doesn't list all sizes. Your are right Dougs was bought out last year.

In case any of you with first gen Firebirds are interested in Mad Dog headers I just got off the horn with him, and he's planning on making a batch of them in about a week.
They're 4 tube with 1 3/4" - 1 7/8" stepped primaries and 3 1/2" collectors. They ship unpainted. Think he said $425 a set. |

Doug's Headers don't hang low. I have them on my '65 GTO and they don't hang any lower than my HO Racing Tri Y headers did. I can't crawl around and get pictures right now due to a medical condition.

if you are worried about rust the order straight from Jet-Hot. they carry super comp but that's it. they are the only place i know that will coat both inside and out (standard procedure)

I no longer have that beautiful 66 in my Avatar. whaaa! When a cat is dropped it always lands on its feet. When buttered toast is dropped it always lands with the buttered side facing down. If a piece of buttered toast was attached to the back of a cat, when dropped, the cat/buttered toast combination should hover, spinning just above the ground, as it tries unsuccessfully to resolve the inevitable conflict of non-scientific certainties. |

Big Mike,
Mark from Mad Dog has a set of round port headers on Ebay Mad Dog Headers I had a couple sets in the past from them and the quality was very good. I did the website for Ron at Tribal tubes. I know they are a nice set of headers too. But Ron is having bad luck trying to get that project rolling. |
