Question 70 GTO core support removal Question

I need to remove my core support and repair it or replace it? Can somebody give me a quick guideline on what comes off? I hear I can keep the fenders and hood on and remove the core support? I have never taken the front end off of my GTO so I am not that familiar with it. Will I have to support the fenders somehow when I take the core support out to replace or repair it?

Also I have read that a 69 lemans core support is a direct replacement? Is that correct?

I just had my car painted too!! Just another reason for me to buy a compressor, tools and learn to mess it up myself! Thanks again everyone.

Remove radiator, A/C condenser (if so equipped), battery and battery tray, and radiator shroud from under the hood.
Remove lower valence panel.
Disconnect headlight wiring, and remove the four bolts that hold the L-shaped bumper mount brackets to the frame (get some help, or use an engine crane, because this will allow the entire endura nose to come off the car, as one piece).
Once the endura is out of the way, remove the wiring harnesses that traverse the core support (including the leads to the horns).
Remove the upper fender mount bolts, as well as the lower brackets that attach the lower fenders to the core support.
Remove what is left of the core support mounting bolts.
Pull core support straight forward, over the frame horns, to remove.
Installation is basically the reverse.
Of course, you'll have to transfer the center bracket, horn assemblies, hood latch and release rod/bracket, and anything else bolted on to the new support.
I think that's about it.

Oh yeah- there's also two bolts on each side, that go from the inner fenders into the lower core support. Those will have to come out also.

No problem. You know, if I was scheduled to do some testing at Ford Arizona Proving Grounds, I could give you a hand. But- it looks like I'll be heading to the Volvo proving grounds instead (near Phoenix).
Oh well. I do miss APG (and that great Mexican restaurant down by the railroad tracks in Kingman)...

James- Thanks for the offer. I wish I was out there more often- it's been over a year (although I did drive through Flagstaff and did back roads past Kingman about a month ago).
It's strange- we seem to be doing a LOT more testing at Volvo these days. It's much more convenient to the airport (Phoenix, instead of Las Vegas), to be sure, but I miss Yucca and Lake Havasu. Plus, the off-road routes through the Hualapi mountains...
Hopefully, I'll get out to APG soon. If I get out there, I'll give you a call. I'd love to check out your 1970, and buy you a beer or three...

to make life alittle easier you don't have to remove the radiator just unbolt the shroud from the core support, support it somehow if you have to.This will save you from draining any fluids and making a mess.I've done it a few times
