Good thing I'm not in a hurry! Went to screw in the rocker arm studs, 6X heads, ARP studs
p/n 290-7201. They won't go. Pulled a stud off a set of 4X's I had. The bottoms are not the same size or thread. I thought this was a direct swap. So the Q is Which rocker arm studs do I need or do I have to pull the heads and have them machined If that wasn't enough the dipstick I've had for 2 years isn't even the right size. Frustrationis building....

You bought the wrong studs. The ones with the 1/2-13 thread on the bottom are for converting press-in stud heads to screw-in studs, the empty press-in stud holes accept the 1/2-13 tap.
Buy a set made for a big-block Chevy, they will have the proper 7/16-14 thread on the bottom.

Want them quick? Buy a set of Pioneer brand studs for a BBC at your local parts store and sell the ARPs on EBAYT. Check your local Pontiac dealer for the dip stick.

Call Paul Spotts or Butler or Pontiac Dude or Scott at Summit. I used ARP-135-7101 studs from Summit on my 48 heads when I installed my Harland Sharps
