They quoted me $700.00 to have my 70 trans am dash done in black or $750.00 in any color other than black. That was about a year ago. I haven't had it done yet so prices may have gone up.

original yes, mint no. Any dash pad that was made of vinyl starts aging as soon as it comes out of the mold. The solvents offgas which is what keeps the vinyl soft and flexible. UV light and air oxidizes the material. Even NOS dashes have the same problems with age. That is how vinyl 'plastic' is. It may not be faded or cracked yet, but with time they will all degrade. Must use hydrocarbon type restoration products to extend the life of vinyl.

Just Dashes did my 1970 Judge convertible. Looked just like the one above, including color. It was good enough that I didn't lose any points on the dash at the GTOAA's concourse judging and ended up with a Gold Award (96.5%)

What about a pad that already has a plastic cap pn it as a core?

No problem. I sent them a core that was not much more than a metal frame with chunks of foam and vinyl on it for my 69 GTO. It came back looking amazing. I also did not have any point deduction for it at the GTO Nats! Tim.

Tried a cap, even had a trim shop install it and they had trouble from the cracks on the old one. after 6 months it got a crack and is lifting!

was an "air conditioned" car dash. They even corrected that for us. They are great in my book. Best to give attention to backside before you send core, as they concentrate on outward appearance. Ron

Did they do everything as in gauge housing chrome--vents--control bezels and wood veneer for these prices or was it just the dash covering?

I also had my dash done by Just Dashes back in 1994. I paid $500 back then. I can see they have gone up on there prices considerably since then.
They did not actually redo my dash, they wanted my old dash as a core and sent me one that they already had done. I received my new one only ten days after sending them my old one. I was told at the time that the vinyl they use is a thicker mil vinyl than was originally used by GM, and that they use an open cell foam as opposed to the closed cell foam that GM used. They said that the cells of the closed cell foam can burst over time and deteriorate and that the open cell foam would stand up better to the intense heat that a dash will encounter. I was then and am now very pleased with the results. Even after 12 years its still looks like the day I installed it. John

Ron,
What is the typical turn-a-round to get a dash back?? And your comment about the back side of the dash, do you recommend that you blast and clean up the backside before you ship it to them? Dan

I just checked out the Just Dashes web site-- They now do the re-chromeing of the dash besel's, so if you send them your dash to be redone you can also have the bezel's re-chromed at the same time--Just thought some of you might be interested in that.

I have used Layson's several times for my plastic chrome. Turn around is about 8 weeks. They charged me $10.00 for vents, $15.00 vent surrounds, $15.00 for heater surround and $195.00 for guage trim. What I like best is they don't take the vents apart, so they sitll have correct mounting hardware. If anyone would like more info or pix, let me know if I can help.
