I've heard that you need to fabricate some sort of spacer to run this set-up. Is this true, and if so what did you use. This is for a second gen bird.Thanks..

It depends....it depends upon if you have mono or multi leaf springs. If you have multi leaf springs you will need spacers to take the place of the rubber spacers.

If you are using the stock 2nd gen perches then you will need to use a spacer to make up the difference. between the springs and the inside top of the perches.

I'm going from multi spring to mono spring. Does Cal-trac sell the spacers or do I have to fabricate something.

You will have to fabricate them. What Calvert recommended to me was to change over to the Ford 9 inch leaf spring perch. That is what I did and no spacers were required.

You can make them out of a chunk of aluminum or any other material suitable to pinch between the mounts and bars. I used a couple of chunks of industrial belting material, drilled and cut easy but doesn't compress, is light, and doesn't break down from road contaminants.
It's really not a big 'detail' to setting it up - simple caveman stuff.

The lowering/raising spacers used for trucks and circle track cars can work. I think Guldstrand the road race guy had some smaller thickness lowering blocks also.

i had to make a spacer for mine..........
I was told by calvert racing that if your car was an original mono leaf car you need the spacer made........ if it was a multi leaf car you dont................. I forget the exact size ........cal tracs will tell you if you call them...............and you also have to drill a hole in the middle of the spacer so the pin on the leafs can go through........... other than that mine went in very easy. |

Thanks for the link to Calvert Racing. Unless the two parts of the leaf are different spring rates (different thickness or width, or different material characteristics), I fail to see what's "revolutionary" about them, though. And even if the rates are different, I still don't consider it revolutionary- a bunch of us guys, 45 years ago, used to run less leaves behind the axle than in front of it.
