There has been much discussion on '72 455HO GTOs but, I haven't seen much on '71s. I am fortunate to have one of each but, I don't see much talk about them. Is there no interest or are there just fewer people out there who own them?
My '71 455 HO is very loaded and was delivered to the GM proving grounds in Arizona. I imagine is was used for executives (?). It was later sold to or traded to Sun Pontiac in Mesa and sold as a used car. I found it in 1977. I couldn't afford to buy it so I had a friend buy it and I bought it from him in 1981. I still remember the Pontiac proving grounds sticker in the top center of the windshield. The build sheet verifies this. Any one else out there with an interesting '71 455HO GTO? I think they made 888 of them going by memory. Steve Barcak www.pontiacheaven.org

I've got a 71 HO/RA 4spd convertible that was originally delivered to Pontiac Headquarters in Pontiac, MI - car invoice lists 23 options. Car is currently in pieces at the body shop where it has sat since 2000 when I stopped them on it (got divorced). They'll be starting on it again soon, just putting the finishing touches on a GSX they've been working on for the last year.
I've also got a 54,000 original mile 72 HO/auto WW5 car which could use a little sprucing up because it sat outside for 4 years for the same reason. Just started it up a couple weeks ago for the first time in 3 years, It'll be tearing up the streets in a couple weeks as well.

I had two of them. a special paint code (67/68?) it was almost purple ram air 4 speed car, no P/S or P/B !!!!
The other I just sold last week NON R/A 4 speed and again!! No P/S or Brakes!!! It was Bronze/Sandalwood. I hated to see it go, but I just bought a HO formula, and you can't keep em all! That's two boss!!!

According to the production #s there are 21 4 spd 455 H.O convertibles & 27 Auto 455 H.O convertibles. Are the 17 Judge convertibles included in the 48?

In 1971 Ram Air was a separate option and only available with the 455HO. I knew of a 1971 GTO 455HO in Tucson that had a factory dual snorkel air cleaner.

BOSS ... I'd love to own your convertible! Mine is a '70 Convert with 455 Ram Air and 4spd. Your's and mine would look good together in a garage!! (But yours would be faster!)

Quezal Gold, Black Top, Black interior.....oh, and I know some people may not agree, but I am going to put my NOS spoiler on it - I think the 70-72 bodies look tough as hell with the spoiler on.

I sold a Limelight Green 71 GTO 455HO about ten years ago. It was heavily optioned, but did not have ram air. It came factory with 15" wheels and rear seat shoulder harnesses.
The air cleaner for a 455HO GTO without ram air is pretty hard to find. It is a double snorkel with two heat risers. I know of one other 71 GTO (a brown 4-spd) that is a bench seat car. It was also a non ram air car. I still have the air cleaner off of it. Mike |

BOSS ... I agree and I've got the spoiler on my car too. It may not be "original" but it was an original GTO Judge spoiler and it looks "mahvelous!"

I have a 71 455HO conv auto (non ram air)that has a ton of options which include A/C and power windows that is being restored as we speak. Are this cars more rare then the Judges and what are they worth. I 've been told my car is worth six figures not that I would ever sell it i've owned it since I was 18 I am now 48.

Seriously, I like the '71's nearly as much as the '72's, heck they're all really neat cars. Nearly identical, but I prefer the fenders with the extractors and the deep-set grilles. I suppose that the '72's were on the showroom floor when I bought my first car prolly has something to do with my preference as well, LOL!
