1985 T/A LT1
I recently purchased my first bird. It's a 1985 Trans Am and it's been stripped. There is no engine or transmission in this otherwise perfect car. Now, my question is this...Can I put a 1994 LT1 engine and transmission into my '85 T/A? If I can what else will I have to do to the car for the swap to work?

Yes, you can do it. The LT1 swap isn't exactly common in the thirdgen world, but people do do it. The T56 6-speed swaps are pretty popular...I have one in my '92 Trans Am.
The best thing you can do if you are going to keep and work on this car is to join thirdgen.org which is the biggest tech-only thirdgen site in the world. They have a whole forum devoted to engine swaps like the LT1 and LS1. Not many thirdgen folks around here, unfortunately. Be forewarned: these cars are highly addictive!

Thanks for the info. I'll definently check into the thirdgen site.
I know how addictive the cars are, I was restoring a 1991 Chevrolet Camaro when it got totaled out buy the sweetest little ole lady in a 5.0 Mustang  .Hopefully I'll be able to get this bird up and flying soon. Thanks Again |
