Swing harder! Better yet...think about installing 1/2" studs that you'll be needing. What rear end are you using? That may be the next thing to ponder!

Brandi:
We never, ever broke a lug bolt/nut on any of our race cars, even with an 11.25:1 427 Ford running into the 10.00 second range. I would check to see the conical (cone shaped) portion of the lug nut, or the shank (if a mag style bolt) fir your wheels correctly. I have seen Weld Draglites (that use a mag style bolt) bottom on the hub and remain slightly loose. This will cause the problems that you describe. Best of luck...Robert |

Brandi,
If your old studs are knurled, a couple hearty blows with a big hammer should be all it takes. When reinstalling stack up some washers and put a nut on the stud to draw it into place. When using mags i'd make sure the nut is long enough to go almost all the way thru the wheel. That will leave less of that skinny 7/16 stud exposed to the shear stress. Definately don't want the nut bottoming out before the wheel is pulled up tight. I assume you have the long studs since you are racing. The suggestion to go with 1/2 studs is a good one. May be necessary to drill the axles to match the knurl on the 1/2 studs... worth checking out. |

Loose lug nuts will cause breakage too.

Brandi,
This used to be an issue for me also. I bought a small 5lb sledge and it worked wonders.
