I luv the 400. Fun, free revving engine.

'67 400 XU block bored .035". Decked to .008". Glyptol painted
'69 350 N crank cut 20/50 and balanced
'68 Front assembly
'70 455 GTO fuel pump.
Eagle 6.8" rods. Ross Pistons 4.150" dished for 9.3:1 and uses NOS-compatable ring pack and end gap. Floating pin.
670 heads ported 240/190, totally rebuilt, 995 springs, viton seals 1016 head gaskets, ARP head bolts.
RPM intake, Q-jet, 14" aircleaner
XE274 advanced 2*, Crower stainless 1.5 rockers, Magnum pushrods.
MSD billet ignition, 6A box, 12* Base, 34* at 3000.
BBC main studs, Milodon pan and tray, M54DS pump blueprinted. Hardened pump shaft
FM4040M 3/4 groove mains, Clevite BBC performance rod bearings
Hooker SCs, into 3" exhaust w/magnaflows dumped in front of rear axle
Shell 93 octane fuel.

Driveline: 2000 footbrake, 3200 Stall BTE converter. TH350 tranny with Trans-Go shift kit, and upgraded parts.
R/E: Ford 9" with 3.90 gears and detroit locker. Moser 31 spline axles.

Car: '67 LeMans street/strip beater. Race weight of 3600 lbs. Street legal, decent street manners.

Performance: (with 3.23 gears in 8.2") 1.92 60 ft, 8.22 @ 84.4 in 1/8. Shooting for the 7s with Ford rear and more traction.

-'65 389 Block bored to 4.122"
-TRW 400 std bore Forged Pistons
-SCAT H-Beam 6.625 rods w/ARP bolts
-#16 Heads with Ferrea 6000 series valves (inlets cut back to 30°) and standard length, 60405 valve springs and Yella Terra 1.65 full alloy roller rockers. Intake gasket matched to FP1233 gasket, exhaust was just cleaned up with a 120grit sanding scroll
-Custom multiport fuel injection with 42lb injectors & 78mm LS1 throttle body, MSD Probillet Dist, MSD 6AL with Megasquirt controlling fuel and spark
-Custom headers, 1 3/4" primaries into a 3" collector, ceramic dipped, 2.5" stainless from collector to tailpipe with X-pipe.
-Twin Turbo Toyota Supra 5speed gearbox w/Hayes 2700lbs pressure plate 10.5"
-Ford 9" LSD, 3.5 gears rolling on 16x8" rear rims (255/50R16) and 16x7" up front

Prior to injection, headers/exhaust, clutch upgrade and the latest cam it had made ~280rwhp with the clutch slipping. Pure street car too.

see below...ive had two 462's as well...soon to rebuild another...there are actually many 400's out there very reasonably priced...

There are a lot of nice combos it looks like. Not many have ets for them. I assume that most of you guys have not made it trips down the track then?

Carb: Holley 3310 750 w/vac. sec. "quick change secondary spring kit"
Dist: Mallory Unilite mechanical advance
Headers: 1 5/8 dynomax headers
Exhaust: 2.5 inch exhaust with Dynomax Ultra Flo mufflers
Oil: Havoline 20w50 (experimenting with royal purple right now)

Trans: Turbo 400 with shift kit, 2800 stall
Shifter: B&M Star shifter
Rearend: chevy 12 bolt posi with 4.10 gears

ET'S are terrible at 13.90 with hard as rock Good Year tires. 60' times have never been less that 2.30 and once were 3.66 (ugh), but I still ran 103.7 mph
shifting AT 5200 rpm.

Well, mines nothing special. Bought the shortblock used just to get my car running.

400 .030 over
XE274 Cam
RPM Intake
Stock #48 heads
TH400 W/10" Continental converter
12-Bolt W/3.90s
275/60-15 M/T DRs
1969 LeMans, still all metal

Best time so far 13.30 @ 100.something W/ 1.84 60ft

I think I can get a little more out of it...

These are soon to reside on the top side of it though:

69 400 Block .030 over, eagle stroker kit, ported 87cc e-heads 305 310 cfm, port match RPM, 850 carb, comp cam Hydraulic roller 236/[email protected] 585/600 lift 110 LS with 1.5 rockers, butler timing chain, butler valley pan with pcv 3500 stall with 3.55’s gears. Will change to 3.73's Cars race weight is approximately 3800lbs

400, standard bore, flat top 4 valve relief hyper pistons, Performer intake, Holley 750 vac secondary w/rear metering plate,Summit 2801, Comp Springs, Comp 1.52 Roller tips, 6x heads, Comp double roller chain, Carter high volume mechanical fuel pump. Hooker headers, 2 1/2 Slowmasters, 700R4/2500 stall. 3.23 gears. MSD ignition. 1980 (Turbo)Trans Am. Title says 2900 Lbs, but I doubt it...

Anyone care to take a guesstimate on HP, TQ??

70 Lemans that is a nice engine but it is no longer a 400 with a stroker kit in it.

Block: 1970 Pontiac 400 + .060 over, zero deck height, 2 bolt mains with stud kit
Rods: Eagle 6.80” with 2.2” journals (bbc std.)
Piston/Rings: ROSS flat tops, 134gm pins, Total Seal Gapless
Balancer: TCI Rattler
Flex Plate: TCI
Bore/Stroke: 4.181/3.79
Heads: 72cc Edelbrock, 300/220cfm, 77cc chamber , cr 10.09, 2.11/1.77 valves, head stud kit
Pushrods: 9.350” .080” wall 5/16” cm
Intake: Edelbrock RPM, port matched only, 1” open spacer
Carb: Barry Grant Gold Claw, now called Race Demon 756-3020RT (875 cfm) box stock
Air Cleaner: Moroso 14" drop base with a 4" K&N element
Cam: UltraDyne roller 295/303 (262/270 @.050), .3883/.3883 tappet lift, 614/614 net lift with .026/.026 lash and 1.65 roller rockers
Ignition: MSD 6AL, MSD crank trigger, MSD 8981 programmable timing control and is sent through a gutted GM HEI
Exhaust: Hooker round port 2"x30” and 3.5" (9.5” long) collector headers, 3.5” to Dr.Gas ‘X’, 3” out to 3” Flowmaster 3 chamber mufflers and no tail pipes
Oil control: Melling 60psi oil pump, Canton oil pan


This combo propelled my 3600lb 69 GP to 10.80s @ 123mph.
other info: 9"/4.30 gear, TH400, TCI 8" 4200 converter, 14x32 M/T ET Streets
correction: I did not have a trans brake in the TH400 until I put the 467 motor in.
Note: went 11.30s /120mph 3750lbs, 12 bolt/4.11s, TH350 with GER 3800 converter (cheapie) and 28x12.5 M/T ET Streets, full 3" exhaust out the back using 3 chamber Flowmaster (no Dr.Gas X).
