Perhaps you are better off with one of the 9" variants instead?

If I had to buy a new rear, I would go either 9" or the S-60, but I haven't read up on the latter much.

just give them a call and they will set it up so all you have to do is bolt it in and go. Mine was about $2300 and that was with 7.73 gears, heavy duty axles, heavy duty ujoints and a Detroit truetrac posi

You'll need to shorten it.

There are dozens of different transmission yokes that look close to the same but aren't. The same goes for the pinion yoke on the rear end, they vary sometimes as well. Of course different rear ends (10-bolt 8.2 & 8.5, 12-bolt) will have their U-joint locations at different distances from the axle centerline.

You'll have to measure your own individual drivetrain in order to have a new driveshaft of the correct length made up. Unfortunately it's usually not as simple as just asking how much some other guy had to shorten his.

Get the car up high enough to crawl under and measure, wood blocks of equal height under each tire works well. The car must be on level ground with all the car's weight on the suspension. The car should be finished (completely assembled) or close to it so all of the weight of the car is there.

Push the yoke all the way into the trans until it bottoms, then pull it out by 7/8". This step is important, this insures that the yoke won't bottom against the output shaft in the trans (causing transmission damage) when the rear suspension reaches its lowest point of travel.

Then get out your tape measure and measure from the center of the U-joint bearing cups on the tranny yoke and rear end pinion yoke. Take this measurement to the shop and have the new shaft made to this dimension, have it balanced too.

I got my 12 bolt at Currie Enterprises, really good guys to talk to and work with. Call them up, tell them what you are going to do with it and how you want it configured, and they will set it up. I got a 3.73, Detroit Tru-Trac, Alu. Cover, cost was about 2500 w/new brakes.
Your driveline will have to be shortened by an inch. After I put in the 12 bolt I put in a TKO 600, that required the driveline to be further shortened.
For reference, After I purchased the kit, I decided that I didnt want thier steel driveline so I talked to a Driveling specialist shop in Hesperia, CA called Hi Desert Driveline, talked with the owner, Bruce...super nice helpful guy, He went way out of his way by ensuring that I was going to get the best aluminum driveline, 1350 u-joints all around and had it the next day.

But back to the original question, yes your driveling will have to be shortened with a 12 bolt

Yeah but it sure gets up and goes in 12th gear.

That should have 3.73 gears.
