Hi,
My 68 firebird has a holly 4160 750cfm carb. When I floor the gas pedal I'm only moving my throttle plate on the carb about 1/4 of the way open. I've always felt the car seemed under powered since I bought it and this is the most likely reason. The cable is old and starting to fray should I buy a replacement throttle cable specific for a 68 firebird, or should I buy a generic type of cable since I have an aftermarket carburator, or does anyone have any other solutions? I want the new cable to open my throttle plate as much as it should if I stomp on it.

I purchased a Lokar universal throttle cable from Summit, works really well for all applications. I have had a few different carbs on my car, and it works great.

On my last car I used a simple chrome throttle cable bracket from Summit and a Lokar stainless cable. Both are adjustable and easy to install. Simply adjust your cable to make sure that the carb butterflies are wide open at full throttle and you are good to go. Very easy install.

This is a problem with an after market carb. With the car off. With a helper. Step on the gas all the way to the floor. Now is the more travel left on the carb? Is it not opening the seconderies all the way? If so take the pedal out. And where the cable rod is welded to the pedal just below that in a vise bend the foot pedal up a little at a time until you get the seconderies to open all the way. Yes the pedal will set higher but its hinged. Hope this helps!!! Bill
