What paint brand is the best match for the charcoal area of rally II's? Ames Performance's paint it too dark and Eastwood's looks too brown. Has anyone found a good match? Thanks.

Charcoal & argent silver...GTOHURST is the BEST guy to ask It has been discussed HERE before. I restored mine but my bro-in-law painted them. look mint to me & didnt use cans. Ive seen the dark ones & dont like em.
I have a question on the backside. GREY or argent silver??????? IM seeing a bunch of grey ones lately about 20%black or light grey

Someone on here one said the correct color is "Dove Grey". I can't remember what brand they said it was, though.
My still unrestored ones are light grey on the back side.

I agree that I don't think the "Dark" Argent is correct, much darker than my spare even. But, mine could very well have faded. Not much difference between the spare and the others, though.

If you are going concours, the back side is a special mix dove gray that has a slight greenish tint to it. This was at least on the 70-71 a-bodies. You can see this on the higher end restored Judges. It's best to find a decent original and have the color matched. The regular dove gray would be good for most resto's though.

If you can find it, the closest I have found to unfaded originals
is Duplicolor GM# 7192. If you want to fudge a little to the dark side, which
gives the wheel a little more contrast without slapping you in the face, you
might like the way Duplicolor T414 looks. I personally believe that if you fudge
the charcoal a little darker than original the wheel looks better. It is critical
that the argent silver looks like the original if you want a correct look. I prefer
the rally wheel paint that Ground up Restorations sells for the Chevrolet rally
wheels for the argent silver. Argent silver paint is pretty easy to find at your
local Auto supply, but the key is that Rally wheel argent silver should not have any visible metalflake in the paint when it dries. This becomes obvious
in bright sunlight. Visible metalflake makes the wheels look "painted". The factory used flake in the argent silver that was so fine that it is not visible
even in bright sunlight. The paint that Ground up restorations sells for Chevelle rally wheels is dead nuts correct. The back side should be dove
gray which is a solid non metallic color, and argent and charcoal overspray
should be present on top of the gray if you want the correct look. To get
the correct look, paint the back side of the sheel dove gray first, then paint
the argent and charcoal on the front side without masking off the holes between the spokes.

Eastwoods has had problems with the "charcoal gray" wheel paint coming out brown. They are aware and have corrected the problem and are currently sending replacement cans , Free of Charge, to customers that have gotten the brown paint.

The Ditzler formula mentioned in the previously noted link is "balls on correct". I had it mixed professionally, and they came out perfect.

Believe it or not, even got a ompliment from Scott tieman at the Nationals.

Here's the pic. The flash makes the silver look a little too "steel like". But this is how the Ditzler formula mix comes out, with their formula for charcoal.
