Has anyone had any issues with a header evac system sucking lots of oil into the headers?

I didnt have that problem, but mine was building too much pressure in the crank case and blowing out my valley pan seal when running a header evac system. Took the hoses off the breathers and the problem went away. Didnt make any difference in my et.

russ467, If your evac system was causing crankcase pressure, it wasn't installed correctly. They are designed to create a vacuum, not pressure.

I agree,either that situation was already building too much crankcase pressure and the evac system simply could'nt "keep up" and relieve the pressure adequately,or the evac system was'nt functioning properly due likely to either a faulty check valve or an improperly installed collector probe.
JMO/FWIW. Installed properly the breather/seperator the evac system has on the valve cover should collect/stop most any oil in theory,but if you're the paranoid type,and/or into overkill style practices,it would be very easy to take a puke tank for a vacuum pump style set-up and use it as a collection tank for any stray oil that may get past the breather/seperator. Just run the breather hoses to the puke tank,and from the puke tank to the collector probes,only catch is you gotta plug or use the fitting for the breather most of those evac tanks use. Remember,you dont want the breather for this purpose,the system must be sealed and able to hold a vacuum so the evac system will continue functioning properly. Most of the breather tanks only have one inlet,so likely you would just use the breather hose fitting for the other hose needed to use it like this. Take for example a tank like this stef's piece,loose the breathers completely,one set of hoses from the breathers would go to one set of inlets,and the other set of outlets would go down to the collector probes,a tank like this would be perfect IMO,as long as you can find the room for it,and plumbing is'nt too complicated. That or use two smaller tanks,each for a seperate side,but serving the same function... Anyhow,ya'll should get the basic idea,so I'll leave it at this. Bret. I just recently installed mine so I've been watching them pretty close. The engine is staying clean and the outlets inside the collectors look good. They seem to be doing their job well.

Just installed my header evac tonight....going from electric vaccum pump off of a crown vic to this new set-up header evac. I allmost think they both create the same amount of vaccum, I am gonna do a back to back at the track to find out.

I found highway driving sucks oil into headers. That is 3400 rpm steady for a half an hour. I do not have baffles in my valve covers and they are the old M/T kind so they are short. If you have a taller set and can plumb from the front face of the valve cover with a baffle I can't see any issues.
Otherwise street driving and at the track I have no issues.

I have no problem either. Maybe it's time to do a leak down test. Too much blowby?

I been running the evac system now for atleast 10 years not a problem at all

Ron H just how much oil do you think is being sucked into the headers on yours. Ours is street driven with the M/T valve covers (like yours) but with a 1/2" spacer under them. I can see some oil, maybe a quart every 500 miles or so. Also the engine is fresh with maybe 600 or 700 miles on it.

If your building enough pressure to blow it out the valley pan, you need new check valves. They tend to stick in a few years, especially if it isn't started every weekend. Take off the hose at the breather and blow on the hose. If your cheeks blowup you need em. The local "good parts house" sells one for a Ford that is the same as the one that come Je's or Sum's kits. 14.00 ea. to Joe Blow, and about 1/2 that if you have a relationship with them.

Does anybody run header evac with full exhaust? A couple of you said you run it okay on the street, but I had to ask... I'm planning to run Ultraflows and a 3/4 or possibly full exhaust. Just wanted to make sure it would work well with that. Plumbing a tank between the valve covers and headers should be easy enough.

I have full exhaust that I uncap the cut outs at the track. Pypes full 3" with race pro mufflers on a 68 firebird.
I would say the amount is very little getting into my exhaust pipes but it is enough to cause smoke. I drive on highway. Stop at a store. Restart car and a huge bellow of blue comes out the exhaust pipes. But rev it and put it in drive and it's gone. I am sure this will be eliminated when i put the sheet metal valve covers I ordered with the evac holes coming out the front.

I ran mine through a 4" exhaust system for most of the years I raced that combination. The mufflers are the Racemasters.
