Detail-Dude is the one that sells them. Was wondering if anyone has bought one and is using it. Any issues?

I bought the same distributor about a year ago and have never installed it. Looks to be well made. But going to have suntuned check it out and set it up when the time comes. They were $59 when I bought mine.

Well, I'm going to try one out. Just ordered. I'll let you guys know how it comes out. These look to be identical to the ones that Paul Spotts sells for $99.

I have received it but have not fired it. Hope to have the engine in place and running by the end of the month. Quality wise, it looks great. The tabs on one of the hold downs doesn't fit exactly as it should. By that I mean, you know how you push down and turn to lock it in place? Well one of those doesn't turn all the way to where it is supposed to. Like the bottom of the main part of the distributor wasn't machined exactly. Not like it's coming off or anything though. I'll let you know if and when I get it fired up.

got it yesterday, installed it last night, did the TDC thing and used the relay system to wire it instead of hacking the harness. quicker startup than the points (I'll check to see if they were worn though) Didn't have a lot of time to mess with final timing or total advance but seems to be good so far and smoothed out the idle, but it's in a 350 with a summit 2800 cam and carter 625afb. Will be able to tune it this weekend and let you know how it comes out. the distributor was made by WYSCO

got off of work a little early had a chance to mess around with the HEI, It likes 14 degrees initial with vacuum disconnected and plugged. took it for a little joy ride. smooth idle, good response to the pedal, get up and go has improved bigtime, and it starts up a heck of a lot quicker too. I'll check this weekend what the total advance and I may have to adjust the mixture for the hotter spark. all in all I am impressed with the HEI-although my old distributor, points, cap, rotor, coil could have been shot to hell and on it's last leg-but my car is ruuning a heck of a lot better

If they are the same ones that Spotty has ,they are great.I have used 3 so far.
They are a nice new unit,2 replaced old worn units and the way the cars started and ran was night and day after install. I am on my way to Pauls to pick up a 4th going into another customers car today. Support a Pontiac guy and buy from one of them!

Would this distributor be run as is, or should it be sent to someone like "Sun Tuned" to be tuned/curved?
Thanks, Dave |

mine was a drop in, haven't got around to trying to recurve or if I should try it. but I've been rolling in it all day no probs with restarts, idle, or accelleration. even dropped the temp from 190 to 185 when warmed up. it's been night and day from points. I'd say drop it in and tune it later if you need to

Just another follow up. I am finally at the point of tuning my car a little bit more. These distributors only carry about 15 degees of mechanical advance. My max mechanical is only about 12 initial and 13 or so mechanical for a total of 25ish degrees total. Need to get in it and see what it takes to open it up a little bit more.
