Default Alpha Kustom Paint in Willis, TX "Don't Use Them"

They don't know what a "Show Quality Paint Job" is although they tell you that they know what one is, but I have not seen it yet. They can't, or don't know how to shoot silver correctly, and all of the cars I have seen come out of their shop in the 9 months that mine was there have been painted white, what does that tell ya?!?!?. It took him 4 times to get the silver paint acceptable on my 69 GTO(he paid for the paint the last 3 times), he came in 2,000 higher than his worst case scenario quote for paint and body work. The whole time he was doing my car he kept saying "This is going to be a show quality paint job", "This is going to be my swan song".

I paid $6,000 for a paint job, and it is no where near what a $6,000 paint job should be. Thin paint coverage, sanding scratches under clear coat, poor prep work.

Now he refuses to fix 3 small areas.

I'm a little pissed

Yes, it was quite an ordeal. I was just as disappointed with the results and it's not even my car.
The biggest bummer is that this shop was recommended by other GTO owners in the area.
I don't consider myself an expert at paint & body but I do have past experience with a spray gun and the paint application on Russells car was sad.
Finally on the fourth attempt, the paint laid out very well.

Stay away from this shop, for sure!!!

I am sorry to hear that. The owner of the shop is my uncle. I know he did the restoration of the car of a president of a gto club in Houston. He was very happy with it. I do not remember the name of the gto club. But I do know he was happy with his car and he did well when he showed the car. I can assure you that this is not the normal result of their work.

If other GTO owners in the area recommended him, then what do you think happened here? Do they not show their cars? Or do they just not care as much about their cars? Or did they really get quality work done and this was just a bad experience for both the shop owner and the customer?

I think it is unfair to tell everybody to stay away when you admit that others recommend the shop. You also state that he repainted the car 3 more times at his own expense. 3 more times at his expense. Does this sound like a bad shop owner?

CJ......

It is a bad shop owner when he never tells you that he can't shoot the color when you pick the color. It is a bad shop owner when he tells you that this is going to be a show quality paint job, and it is far from it. It is a bad shop owner when two of the only rust bubbles that it had, come back in less than a year after he supposedly fixed them. It is a bad shop owner that tells the wrecker driver that comes back to get the car for paint redo number 2 that the owner is afraid of putting the car back together because he might scratch it, when the real reason that the car is being returned is because the job was substandard. It is a bad shop owner when he complains about spending $3,100 of his own money on additional paint(because he could not shoot it), when I (the customer) have spent over three times that amount. He tells me that he did a lot of stuff that he did not charge me for (14hrs on the front bumper) that is $1,120 dollars. His final price to me was $2,100 over the $9,200.00 that was quoted. He wants to get pissy about $500.00 that he thinks he is owed (for the final paint that he did use), then he should not have given it back to me. As far as I am concerned, (the customer) he still did a substandard job, and it is starting to show, after just two weeks of me having it home. I would have never started this thread had the shop owner done what he said he was going to do. (A show quality paint job).

There is only one GTO club in Houston and I have been an officer since the club was first started. None of our president's or any other officer has had a car painted there. We did hold a club event there on paint and body shop work. We also have a member whose 66 GTO car was painted there and he was quite pleased with the work done. Other than that, I know of no other information.

Engineer....

You are more than welcome to come see the work that was done, and judge for yourself.

my post was to clarify comments made about the Houston GTO club with info about what the club did there and who was involved. That is all.

The dog and pony show that Alpha put on for the GCGTOC, was the reason that I took my GTO there, I was not in attendence, but a couple of the GTO guys that were there felt comfortable enough with the shop to recommend him. I have found out though, that if there is a vendor out there that does any type of pontiac work, I will be the customer that he has the bad luck with. I am a very reasonable guy, but why would I be the bad guy when I am only expecting to get what I am told I will be getting, and pay for?

I accompanied Russell most of the time he went to check on progress of the job.
The owner frequently said that the paint would be show quality. Even went to the extent of showing us pictures of past cars he had painted that were of show quality.
He prided himself on having 35 years paint/body experience and that he was an exclusive DUPONT shop, as he quoted their products were superior over the other brands.
What's wrong in this picture?.......a veteran paint & body man AND shop owner, had to paint this vehicle 3 times before a quality appearance could be obtained.
If the owner had to pay out of pocket expenses for his inability to do a job as promised, then he bears the consequences of his actions.

This whole ordeal could have been eliminated if he would have come forth, swallowed his pride and said he couldn't shoot the paint properly.
