Steve,
Have you had a chance to send your original emissions decal to Dave at ECS? I have the same car as you and want to buy an emissions decal from Dave, but he needs yours as a template. I sent him my trunk decal and he is using that as a template for his catalog. ECS's work is extraordinary in the Mopar and Ford world and Dave is just getting into GM work. There is no comparison to the stuff that is currently out there. He is trying to build his GM offerings and asked to spread the word that he is looking for good original GM decals like emissions, air cleaner, trunk, glove box, air cleaner, etc. He will make you a copy for the trouble and will build his catalog to offer other enthusiasts. Thanks Frank |

Just got my VIN decal from ECS today and it is extraordinary. Right color and font. They typed in the VIN number and other manufacturing specifics and it looks exactly like the original. Unfortunately my trunk spare tire decal suffered from too many years in a damp environment(maybe thats why it came off the trunk lid so easily) and there was too much missing for Dave at ECS to make a new template. If anyone has an original 1972 firebird trunk spare tire decal, please take a good digital picture and send it to Dave. With the dimensions from my paper decal and the details from a good picture, he can reproduce an exact replacement. Also need an emissions decal for the core support so anything there would be appreciated as well.

Has anyone had any luck with the decals from Ames? I'm getting ready to order about 8 of them. If they are junk I will wait until the "good stuff" comes out.

I just Fedexed my original 72 455HO emissions decal to Dave at ECS. We will see what the result is very soon. He says it will be an exact duplicate of my original. I will keep you all updated as soon as I see it. Everybody keep your fingers crossed.

Steve:
Please let me know as soon as you see the repro. If they're nice, I'll need at least two. If the A-body decal is the same, then I'll need four. Frank - still need to check the trunk decal on my Formula. I'll try to remember to shoot some pics tonight.

Man, I just don't know where my head is, Frank.
I could have sworn my blue Formula still had it's trunk decal, so I got my digital camera out last night and popped the trunk. Only thing left is the glue pattern! Sorry!

Here's the preliminary version. It's not finished yet. Dave received my original yesterday and worked 12 hours straight through the night on it. He said this was a challenge because there are at least 7 different fonts in the decal and they were originally produced as reverse silkscreened images on the back of clear mylar, with a black layer, then a white layer for the text. Amazing work. If anyone has any other decals for Pontiacs, Dave needs them and will reproduce them for his catalog of decals. You also get a free one back along with your original.

Can he replicate one from a picture? I don't think I can peel this one off and save it:

Seeing the differences made me wonder about the air cleaner repro. So I pulled my original out to compare. Check out these differences in the 455HO air cleaner repro sticker and original:
Red outline is WAY too thin, the inner white circle on the O is not symmetrical...all in all, though very close, but NOT exact. I will try and send this one off for duplication, unless there is a better one out there, I know my repro one is over 10 years old. Also posted an original aircleaner Keep your GM all GM sticker. Don't know about the repros of these, but I'm sure they are not the caliber that this guy can make. ANYone know a good way to take these things off without butchering them?

Pat - Thanks for posting those pics. I really like the look of the original air cleaner decal with the thicker red outline. If Dave reproduces these, I'm in too!

Just emailed him the pics and info, we'll see what he says. Is he available to talk to by phone? I haven't checked his web site that close yet...
Yeah, I like the thicker outline too....I always wondered if that repro sticker was "correct" or not. Didn't know till I looked...didn't have that original till a few months ago. Pat

Dave's work is outstanding. He sent me the door vin sticker that is nothing like the junk you get from the catalogs - or the one on ebay for that matter. I sent him my battered original paper spare tire decal, in conjunction with some digitals or originals and he will reproduce that. Get him good originals and he will make outstanding reproductions.

Steve the only thing that I can see is the characters in the boxes look a little heavy. Not much but a little when compared with the original.

They are the exact same as the original. He uses the originals, scanned and copied to make the prototype (which that one is, its not the finished piece he has some more adjustments to make)

I just received the final version of the emissions decal and it is awesome. He sent me back my original as promised and the new one. He also did a door conformance decal for me as well. I cant stress enough how accurate this guys work is...simply amazing. It is even made as close to the same way the factory did them as possible given the advances in technology. (the originals were reverse silkscreened on clear laminate material) Give Dave a call (and your business). He also did a really neat dealer bumper sticker for my 70 Dodge Charger. So now he has a template for those dealer decals from back in the 60's and 70's if you want him to make one up for your particular dealer.
