"My comments were made to address the "car show" mindset some folks seem to have (nobody specifically though folks...),like all that matters is "one upping" the competition and winning awards and having the masses fawn over their creations,to me it's all kinda like a pretty girl with low self esteem who attends pagents, just a kinda pathetic need for positive reinforcement to improve ones ego,but if that's what "floats your boat" more power to ya'll.
Ok, maybe it's just me but it sounds like someone hasn't had very much luck winning trophies at Car Shows and is a little bitter. Like maybe losing to custom cars alot. I guess if you go to shows and never win trophies this might end up being the reaction??? |

I would like to know exactly how many times that "Stupid Looking Double Blown GTO" has had it's picture on the internet? Has had it's picture in a magazine? Has been talked about by someone? I know when Bill brought the car to Burger King in Manassas, Va the whole show stopped. That would have been a good time to look at ANY of the other cars since EVERYONE was standing around Bill's car. I've seen blown cars, pro-street cars, customs, modifieds, street rods and even originals and nothing since I have ever been there got the attention that the GTO has. At that time Bill still hadn't gotten the hood to fit so the comment on a lot of people's tongue was "Wow that's a Pontiac Engine!!!" That thing slammed on the ground and the amount of noise coming out of it is astounding. We heard it come around the corner before it was in sight and most everyone was looking. I don't mean he has loud mufflers I mean the ground was shaking. The car sounds awesome. You can call the car stupid looking all you want, and make all the nasty comments you want about the car and Bill himself, but Bill is one of the nicest people I have ever met and the car is a one of a kind totally awesome ride that gets more attention that Bill wants at times. But he drives it proudly and loves to talk about it when the questions start.

When I first saw this car here on the forum I thought "thats stupid". And I meant stupid as in stupid. Then I saw the car in person and I thought "THATS STUPID". But I meant stupid as in slang for "FN BADA$$" In person this car definately makes you go WOW! This car may not be your taste but you have to respect all the hard work that went into it. Im also building a 70 GTO and am modifying it to what I like.I also like the fact that when some NinnyBaby purist gets his panties in a wad I will just show him a picture of this car and be left alone.

Sorry for the bad judgement of words in the tiltle. I knew it would get replies. I'm really jeleous of your car! I couln't afford 1 blower let alone 2. I didn't know you could stack them either. And it's a Pontiac which I really like.

Bill knows this. With some tuning effort, and some more money out of pocket, it can probably be made to run fairly well, but Bill is not overly concerned. He enjoys taking it to shows, wowing the crowd, taking home trophies, and occasionally taking home cash for a "best of" or "dealers choice" award. For Bill, this is his way of "getting his rocks off". Somebody else must like it too, else he wouldn't be getting the accolades. Double blower not your cup of tea? Mine neither. But neither of us are paying his bills. I'd like to see him get it running correctly, but that's going to take some effort, particularly out of the pocket, and Bill isn't interested in doing that now. And why should he? He's already made his statement and is having a blast doing it, so whether or not it runs correctly is irrelevant.

Says in the HPP article that the car will run 10.20's with the single blower setup. so it's not "all show and no go" although I know the 2nd blower was for WOW factor, (it worked!) imagine that, taking off a blower, and your cars still runs 10's ! cool car Bill !

Try spending a week polishing your car, getting to the show early to get a good spot.......Feeling cocky on my bright red, polished car.....Only to have Bill pull in, with that monster and steal all the attention away.
Kinda steals all the thunder from our car's...LOL No wonder a calander company hasn't called to stick a hottie on top of my car....talk about jealous. All my friends drive Chevy and Mustangs....some very nice too..I am the only Pontiac guy, and they all ask me about Bills car, it is infamous.

Bill's car ran a 10.20 with converter problems, bouncing off the rev limiter from the 660 mark. A 10.20 is way slow for this car. Should have been low 9's or better. Paul Spotts listened to the car down at Pontiacs in the Park the first year and he told Bill it sounded like an 8 second pass to him, this is with the first blower and before the transformation.. I was in the car with 2 blowers and he hit the throttle a bit.... not sure I was ever planted in the seat like that before. The car is amazing.

As I said before, the second blower will be off the car early next year (after the May Ocean City, Md. show) and then it will just another Pro Street car. I will keep the 8-71 on it and overdrive it 13% to make about 16lbs of boost. This should put me very deep into the 9's and hopefully get a 8.999 pass if everything works out right. If not, I always have the nitrous kit there for some extra ponies. Of course next year, everyone will say "why did you take the other blower off?"

And I'll be asking:
Still running a cast crank? Where's the crank snout support? Can we get that honey back here to sit on it again?

Brian, I have said in the past that the car does not "idle" well but I've never said the car doesn't run well. The car runs fine once it gets off idle. The idle surge makes it a PITA to try and park at a car show and to try and get it on a trailer, but that's it. When I drive the car (which is very often) it runs fine. From just off idle to 70mph it runs great and cruises all day. No problems running wise (except for my broken balancer bolt mishap last week) and the few times I have hit it to about half throttle, it blows the MT ET Street 33X18.5 tires off with NO problem. No throttle lag.....No missing....No lean (if anything there is some black smoke from rich....but that is mostly from a lot of idling around). I wouldn't trade this car for anything. I am 99% pleased with it. I have grown accustomed to the idling characteristics and as long as that isn't hurting anything (and I see no evidence it is) I don't plan to change it. The second blower will be coming off soon enough and then I will worry about tuning it for more performance. If my pockets were deep enough to pay for the gas, I'd drive this car anywhere. It's just not practical to drive it to Norwalk, Louisville, Detroit and other long distance shows I attended this year. I have driven it to shows as far away as 78 miles one way and back home without issues. Lots of bumper to bumper driving in Ocean City, Md during Cruisin week and Detroit during the Woodward Dream Cruise. The car has been driven over 2000 miles this year. The only issues I had were a broken rear shock (hitting a pothole), a thrown alternator belt (getting on it once driving to Capitol Raceway) and the broken balancer bolt last week. I don't think that is bad for a "Fairway Queen". LOL

This car would not be something that I would personally build, but I can easily recognize some "out of the box" thinking and engineering. Reminds me of some of the efforts of Rick Dobbertin and his J2000. Conterversial? Certainly. Practical? Who cares. The owner built it the way he wanted it and you either love it or hate it. Such is car crafting.

A future Monkey Mobile in the making?
Bills car has great (mass) crowd appeal. Give it ten years and I bet it will be standard inclusion on the "list" of Pontiacs of notoriety. |

My opinions on the car,or Bill himself are unimpotant, and as yet still 100% unknown to all here!!! I was just amazed that Bill got so upset over such a "stupid" thing as that comment which was obviously made "off the cuff" by somebody who must not have realized Bill was a member here,or had such a strong following of supporters here. And anybody letting any of my comments bother 'em amazes me even further yet!!! To me how you deal with these inevitable situations like this in life defines how others may judge you,so if ya'll think just "lashing out" at a fellow board member for speaking his mind is appropriate, then we obviously differ in that respect. I can tell ya'll this,I could give a rats a$$ about car shows/show cars, not my "cup of tea"... (There,,,NOW ya'll know!)Never even bothered to enter any car "shows" myself, very likely never will, and certainly jealousy of said car show "scene" is way beyond laughable in my book. Hell,if they charge admission to go any "run of the mill" car show, the odds of me attending a given car show run about 50/50,and if it's more than $10.00 or so,make the odds closer to 100/1,I got better things to spend my money on usually. Cruise ins and stuff like that are all fine and dandy IMO,it's just all the competition bs at certain shows that turns me off,and again, this goes for the concours "resto" cars as much as all out "show" cars. Now drag racing is another story, that is my "cup of tea",that's where my true loyalties lie! And to that end,I also dont give a rats a$$ what anybody else thinks about my cars or myself personally,I've never been compelled to elicit anybody elses "stamp of approval" or "trophy" to validate my cars "worthiness" or my own self-worth,my self esteem is intact and just fine as is,even if I had zero cars or possesions,I'm just not the type of fellow that bases my self worth,or the worth of others for that matter,on items one possesses,or what my own possessions may do for my personal enjoyment or frustrations, that would be just sad to me if that were indeed the main basis for my self-worth IMHO. Nor did I mean to imply anybody else here did so either. Pride in one's creation,and/or possesion and enjoyment of something they own is one thing, but letting that dictate how you "carry" yourself, and how others may see you is another discussion entirely. The car should be a reflection of it's owner, not the other way around... I never said anything about Bill, his car,or my opinion on either, all I was saying is that the method he used to address this fellows poor choice of words was no better than the methods that guy used to start this whole mess from the begining. BTW,,,I've called my own cars far worse things than "stupid" at times, worse things than anybody else would ever even think of calling them,,,ever! You guys wanna keep this "stupid" thread going, fine by me,all that does is keep bringing this "stupid" thread back to the top! Or ya'll can let this "stupid" thread die and drift off into the back pages of PY where it pretty much belongs at this point! Especially seeing as 95% of it has been "off topic". Oh,BTW,Bill,if any lady ever actually agrees to marry me,you have my blessing to call here stupid to my face, she would likely have to be pretty f*cking stupid to marry me in the first place! And I'm sure more than a few guys here have married "stupid women" at some point in their past too!!! Ask those fellows 'bout their ex's... Better yet,ask their divorce lawyers! Bret. (Edit:I see while I was writing this that greyno3 and Bill have put this behind them,so this "spat" should thankfully be over!)

If you want to talk drag racing you can also talk about Bill. He used to have a car called Lemanster which was a 70 Lemans that went a 10.03 @136. My friend owns the car now and it's a lot of fun to drive. 10" tire car too.
