Q-jet carb ID for 69 400 engine
Hi All -
I have a q-jet carb that was removed from a very original and seemingly untouched 69 400 engine in a 69 Grand Prix. The code stamped vertically into the carb body on the driver's side doesn't follow the typical 7-digit format (e.g., 70xxxxx). This carb has 4852S stamped in that area, as well as K6 below it. Anyone know what this carb decodes as? I have not seen this code in any listings. This is definitely a q-jet, and it was manufactured by Carter if that makes any difference. Thanks in advance for any help. |

Carter Quadrajet
Not sure how much this helps but I did find this:
Carter built quadrajets: Carter Carburetor Company of St. Louis produced millions of quadrajets under license from GM from 1966 through 1979. These carburetors carry the exact same identification as their Rochester counterparts, and parts are directly interchangeable. Carter also produced "aftermarket" replacement quadrajets, which will be identified by the traditional Carter part number (4 digits, followed by the letter "S"). An example of this numbering system would be 4675S, which is identical except for the number to 7028262.

Might be a replacement. Both of my '69 Grand Prix's "XH/400 and XF/428" had 7029268 WF coded quadrajets. But the 428 Q-jet has no date codes that I can find.

Rainer, yours is an aftermarket replacement Carter with that type number - like described earlier. I don't know if that is the correct part number application fro 1969 Pontiac 400 or not. Try googling some stuff like Carter carburetor id/identification/cross reference/etc...
FYI - FWIW Carter didn't produce any of the Ram Air applicated Qjets. So don't get high hopes of it being a gold mine. Greyno3, some 68 and 69 Qjets were dated on the edge of the baseplate/throttle body. Driver side directly behind secondary. Lately we have also had a fair amount of 69's with no date anywhere pop up, but they did have proper plant/pick codes just like yours does. |

Carter 4852S is a replacement for Rochester 7029262, 1969 Bonneville 428 (400).
